She's an attractive girl, but she doesn't look very comfortable or relaxed in the shot, also a little too much distracting stuff in the background. I don't mean to sound really negative - I'd love to see how you progress with these shots.

gorgeous model, the scene is a little too, spare bedroom and point and shoot.
I don't mean that in a nasty way either, but very often the settings for learning the ropes. Keep experimenting with ideas, try to turn to have a less details background and keep focussed on making her feel relaxed natural.

Good luck, she's great.

I think your lighting is still letting you down - it looks almost like 'direct-flash' from an on-camera unit, even though it isn't. Try moving the main light around to the side and down to give a better modelling effect. Use as big a soft-box as you can find and add a smidge of fill using a silver brolly set to at least 2/3 lower than your main light, or just a reflector off to the side.
You might also try getting a little lower and shoot from her eye-level or lower.

And I also agree she looks like she's about to have root-canal work done without a jab...

She's a beautiful girl - but to my mind simply TOO thin for this kind of work. I find the rib-cage showing and the extreme thin-ness of her thighs distracting - but I do think the head and shoulders would make a stunning portrait shot.

As far as the background is concerned - t fluffy cushions would be better gone, IMO, and maybe next time try a plain backdrop between model and cushions to lose the bed headboard and wallpaper?

I was thinking that too - but then many models are stick thin these days - no real curves

Do the majority of guys on here find this look Sexy though? I'm curious to know - my other half would pull a face and say "Ugh" at a model that thin and flat-chested, I know that for certain. Interested to hear the views of others. Mini's right though - the majority of models used these days DO seem to fit this mould.

marmite

yep - that'd do too! (Although I think it might burn on the barbie!)

Shes a bit too thin for my tastes, she needs more curves just to look "healthy" imho, but thats purely my opinion. I like curves.

Needs a bit more meat for me too, very attractive, but I do do curves :)

Back to the picture, I too think the background is cluttered, would be better HI/Lo key with just the model perhaps, then the actual lighting on the model may not look as 'flat'?

Again she doesn't look too comfortable, she's got that "haven't you finished yet/Not another pic" look.

I like it (her)! I prefer to see something in the background, at least. The cushions and headboard could (should) be symmetrical. There`s nothing worse (to me) than a plain background.

OOps! Youre not going to like this then .....

I just gave this what I think you guys call a 'quick & dirty' to lift the light a litle and get rid of the 'naughty snap in the back bedroom feel'.

Personally Id lose the knickers  .... I think plain or at least a plain colour work best.
Id lose the bracelet too, the pearls have an old yellow look thats seems to jar against the modern belly jewel.

My only concern regarding the model is that her hands have a very red and raw kind of look, if youre going to draw attention to them in a pose, Id use a little make up on them or try & PS it out.

JMO, hope you dont mind! :)

That's miles better, Glo. I was just thinking it needs a more 'studio' type background. You warmed her skin tones up nicely too.

Yep. Nothing particularly derogatory or salacious here, but it's a bit of a slippery slope, so if we can please leave out the personal comments about models and just concentrate on the merits of the shots folks?

We'd like to see a lot more of this sort of work posted, but personal comments about the model aren't going to encourage anyone to post. Remember we don't always know what the relationship of the model is to the poster, and what offence might be taken. :)

The underwear promotes an air of mystery to the image, and the warmer skin tones suit the dark background. So yes I still like it!

She doesnt look comfortable in that pose, a plain background, and either a high or low key look would be nice or both, to give 2 diffrent shots and feel to them. Keep working at it.

Now where can I build that studio I've always wanted ?.

Arkady

This is kind of a model crit, but more in the way that the photographer has used her rather than her merits (or otherwise) as a person - It's an awkward pose for her - the hands don't form a nice line and accentuate the 'raw' look InaGlo mentions. Leaning forward like that causes wrinkles at the top of the thighs and is unattractive, giving the overall 'uncooked chicken' effect.
Getting her to lean backwards would alleviate that and give a more flattering line to her overall shape.
It takes practice and it's for this reason that experienced models earn more - they naturally fall into poses that photographers want, even if the photographer doesn't realise it himself.

thanks for all the comments, I too like more curves on models, but the opportunity came were i could do a shoot with Kat. I agree with the comments about the background, i was trying to do something different, as ive done alot with plain backgrounds.
Here are a few more of Kat i done while ago. The photoshop could be better, i know trhere is a glow around her, thats easly fixed, but didnt have time. Thanks David

Good shots, but she looks really pale in them - just an observation, not necessarily a criticism. Pose in the first new one looks forced and unnatural. The pose in the second is far more relaxed, and it's a better portrait for it, IMHO. I'd still be inclined to look at the white balance though...

Totally agree on this one. TBH in the first one her hands look as if there tense rather than relaxed. Beautiful model though :)

#2 of the second set is by the far the best she is so much more relaxed.

photostar_1
17-11-2006, 18:33
Just a thought, but since she seems most relaxed in the last pic, where she is almost fully covered, was she a bit embarrassed at posing? Perhaps that's why she seems so tense in the others.

No 2 of the second set is a winner for my book - much better use of the look of the model.

Apologies if my comments earlier were out of line - it wasn't the model in these shots I was enquiring about opinions of, more that "look" in general. I do appreaciate that it could easily have turned into a session of picking holes in the poor girl though!

That black background is much better, the background was to disracting in the first shot.

Another vote for No2 - she looks very relaxed and natural. :)

The nice thing about a very plain background like that is it's easy to play around with the framing and change the whole mood of the shot.

Lovely stuff, this is what it's all about, helping each other out.
I was a bit worried when the model was being poked at but glad to see that was noted and corrected.
It's all progressed into a fine image.
Now the trick is take all the ideas and try to do as much as possible in camera.
Loving it.
Rob.

Much prefer the edited versions (with the blanked out background) They add a whole new air to the image.
