Hi,

I am currently looking for a new lens for my 350D, I am after a lens that will cover all landscape and portarit work, as at the moment I can't afford to spent too much.

The two that I have found are:-

Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 EX DG Macro £290

Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC Macro £230

I am very tempted with the 17-70 as that will help with landscapes. Can anyone think of any problems or advantages with either of the above?

Thanks

The 24-70 gets a pretty good score on Fred Miranda review

Nothing there about the 17-70. I have not handled either so can't give a personal opnion though.

I have the 17-70 and so far have no grumbles with it. Decent build, size and weight and even good image quality, when I remember to check the settings on my camera. Alot of the pics here (http://www.pbase.com/stephenb70) were taken using this lens. For £230 I am happy with it.

17-70 Rob. It's the one you saw on my 400D and I've been nothing but impressed with it. I've done a bit of Macro with it too and got some good results

I've got the 24-70, it the lens that spends the most time on my camera. A great everyday range and its great with my flash. Petemac also has one and gets awsome results from it.

I haven't seen a bad word against the 17-70 as far price vs quality goes.

The 24 may find you wanting at the wide end on a 1.6 crop.

So the best in this price range I would think is the 17-70

Petemc also recommended that 24-70 to me a few weeks ago and I shall definately be investing in one in due course. with my old camera I used to use a 28-80mm a lot of the time - a Sigma also - and loved it. Doesn't work on the 30D ***'. :( The other half has it now. I have to grab the old D30 and that lens every now and again and take a shot or two for old times sake!) Seriously though - I've not heard anyone who has the 24-70 lens saying other than good stuff about it.
