View Full Version : Male Chaffinch
The light's a bit better today, I managed these two at 1/125 at F5.6. Still having to crank the ISO up to 800 though.

LOL. 400mm 2.8 for you though Doddy I think?
Stop it, stop it, stop it.
Stunning shots and as for that bokeh......

Thanks mate! :D
These are not much further away than min focusing distance though and full aperture, so the bokeh should be pretty goodl.
 not bad them cedric not bad at all :notworthy: :notworthy:
I've been watching these long lens threads with interest and whilst I had a 17-55mm 2.8 at the top of my list closely followed by the 70-200mm VR, guess what is creeping up ever so quickly and invading my thoughts at the oddest times of day. Getting a serious case of NAS. ;)
This place is baaaaad for the bank balance.
I've been sat staring at these pictures for about 5 mins thinking if I got a spare £4.5K lying around.
The colour, bokeh etc is superb. :)
JFDI! :D
Imagine a tad faster shutter speed, slightly smaller aperture and lower ISO. Roll on Summer.
Oh well.. Jan's halfway through a mega shopping spree with me acting as Sherpa and I'm just off back into the fray... " Does my bum look big in this"
Payback time for the lens.
"Does my bum look big in this"
And when you tell them the truth they get the face on  why do they ask.
" Does my bum look big in this"
No dear, it IS big in that :boxer:

Thanks for all the comments folks, all much appreciated. :)
I did manage this squidger shot this morning too which is uncropped apart from a slight trim at the bottom to crop out a couple of distracting fallen leaves.

I'm not using my normal PC but he looks a touch blown on the RHS of his body.
Anyway, I thought this was a Xmas present so put it away before you make us all reach for the creditcard ;)

How much bird seed and squirrel food must you be putting out to keep getting shots like these?
It must be like an " All you can eat buffet " in your garden.
We don't feed the squirrels, they're just natural born thieves and vandals, they've wrecked two bird tables. ;)
Excellent stuff as always CT
The bird shots look so, well ... smooth is the word that keeps coming to mind.
I always enjoy seeing the 'squidger' shots too!
Excellent stuff CT.
Throw some hazels in the grass, keeps the squirrels away from the bird feeders.
When are you going to let me take the hand held shots for you? ;)

Excellent shots but I agree with Ven they look a tad over sharpened to me.
Excellent - envy you the perching tree and the male chaffinch won't come near - sends his missus! Beautifully captured - do credit to any ornithological publication.
That first one is just fantastic Ct.
