Canon G10 service notice (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=222&modelid=17624&keycode=2112&id=57370)

Couldn't find anything on UK site, but Canon USA mentioned contacting your own support centre outside the USA for the problem.

Another example of Canon's poor quality control?

That's what you get for buying canon Flash - they'll even wreck a whole batch to stop dirty Nikon converts ;)

Hi guys, bought my G10 last month, so not best pleased. :( Anyway according to the Canon website if your G10 has what looks like a dot, on the inside of the battery flat, on the lens side, your camera has been sorted already.
Now mine has what looks like a little black dot of paint, but doesn't look the same as the picture on the Canon web site. Anyone know if this is the mark Canon are talking about. I've spoken to Canon tech support and they said it is, but didn't sound very convincing.

So they went to the trouble of marking good cameras, why not just "pull" all the bad ones instead, so they obviously knew about this for a while then:shrug:. Wayne

Yep they did. At least if your buying one and it has the mark, you'll know it's ok.

Or that the dealer has added a dot, in case a wise tog has a look first.
Possibly because he can't be bothered sending his stock back. I seem to remember some dealers were claimed to have adding a dot to the 1SD3 boxes, so they could sell them when there were problems with those.

As if the dealers would do such a thing, cynical or what. :D
My dealer hadn't heard of it until I told him.

I think I might adopt an "if it ain't broken" approach to this and wait to see if the problem actually shows up...
