View Full Version : Screen Protector
Has anyone got a screen protector on their 30d.....or any camera come to that?
I didnt use one on my 350d and got a chip on the lcd display on the back, so Ive decided to use one on the 30d.
Any recommendations as to a particular brand?

Just use the type sold for handhelds and cut them to size, PC World, Staples, maybe Dixons/Currys, even Argos should all sell them.
Or see if the Hama catalogue the forum has stock these ones:

Warehouse express do these little chaps :)
I've got the stuff out of Jessops, £5 I think it was for three small sheets you just cut to size.
Thanks guys, seems youre all happy with whichever brand you have, so I will just choose one! I dont think I need the flip-up type, this screen on the 30d is nice and big and easy to see from all angles, so a flat piece of plastic it is then!
I use the issued Nikon one tied on with a bit of string. Almost opaque now with all the scuffage, so I dread to think what the screen itself would have looked like by now...
nevert hought of this, I think I'll add one from My PDA!
Good shout.
Agreed - they are now added to my Christmas list!
I was tempted to get one for my 350D (Pack of 3 you cut to size from ebay, about £2 from a european seller I think).
Then decided against it.
Apparently it's not the screen anyway, it's just a cover, and they're available cheaply and easy to replace (just glued on). Not sure how true that is though.
I must admit I've always envied Nikon users, because I like their opaque screen covers, but the only ones I can find for my 30D are the flip up ones, which I dont like.
I have no screen protection on my LCD and like Marcel decided against fitting anything.
When I had Nikon the plastic ones provided were/are very good so always left them on.
i bought a popup screen shade for my 30D and within a fortnight a bit of muck got behind it and scratched the screen so i would only recomend the clear film that you cut to size.
Got mine from Jessops Janice again about a fiver for 3 I think, very useful, had the first one on now for 5 months? doing the job very well.

I've read on other forums that the bit you can touch on the 30D is a clear cover over the actually LCD screen, and Canon only charge about £10 to replace it

I read a similar thing too.
One thing I noticed today when I got home from Bolton Abbey, was that the LCD on top of the camera has some light markings...Nothing serious, but a couple of very minor scuff marks. I would have thought that they would be more resilient than that. Can't imagine how it's happened either.
(Either that or it just needs a good wipe :embarrassed: )
Marcel, thats Canon build quality for ya!!!
:nikon:
:p
I got a pack from Jessops too - but they were rubbish - couldn't get the air bubbles out and could barely see the screen in daylight.
I spent about £12 on a protector for my iPod which was a Martin Shields one which is washable, applied perfectly, and has kept my iPod scratch free. I might get a PDA one and cut it down to size - only problem is they're not cheap and I don't want to mess it up!
