I just got myself off ebay a
STUDIO STROBE
SYNCH FLASH
DYNASUN WOF4001
45W/s mains powered Studio Flash
26m Guide Number ISO 100

and it just arrived and flashes great when I use my flash, my question is how do I know how to expose for it, the light only comes on when it flashes so I'm a bit confused. Not tried it out too much as it only came today; any help gratefully received :)

Allan you need to do a bit of reading to get your head around manual flash techniques.

Well this flash has a guide no of 26 (metres) at ISO 100.

There's two ways to use the guide number..

(1) Divide the flash to subject distance into the guide number to give you your working aperture.

(2) Divide the aperture you wish to use into the guide no to give you the required flash to subject distance for that aperture.

I'll try to find you a linky :)

Thanks CT :)

I'll try to get my head round it tomorrow. Suppose I'll have to take account of my oncamera flash that i'm using to activate the flash head.

Or.......

Start at f8, take a shot and look at the histogram. Adjust accordingly. ;)
