nikon macro lens, which one?

as above, which lens do i need i'm getting all comfused lol.. i ideally want something that will do macro 1:1 with good results, will be also getting a sigma ring flash unit to use with it, as i need to take pictures for work of small microelectronic packages..

I like the look of the 105mm. Good working distance and the lens gets some good reviews.

I opted for the Sigma 105 over the nikon purely on price. I've no tried any macro stuff with the lens :thinking: to date having had a major break from most things due to loads of personal stuff.

What images i have taken, I'm very pleased with, think it came in around 1/3 -1/2 the price of the Nikon.

You can spend less than £50 and good results IMHO.

These are some shots from the weekend with a Sigma 90mm f/2.8 I bought here for £35. Its old, and manual focus only, but IMHO manual focus is the way to do macro

You can spend a lot on a macro, but IMHO you don't need to spend much at all to get reasonable results (shots 1 and 3 were wide open)

For £300, Tamron 90mm f/2.8 would be my choice.

Or a Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X (if you can find one)

The Nikon AF 60mm f/2.8 micro will work well for your application. For electronic components photos with a ring flash you do not need much working distance. Available for £299 here (http://www.martinscamerashop.co.uk/nikon-af-60mm-f28-d-micro-66-p.asp)

Have a search on e-Bay and maybe a few of the 2nd hand outlets on the web. As puddleduck stated, it's an old lens - so be prepared to search!

I have seen them on Ebay but they seem to be quite rare, I can't find anything about the lens at all, even on Sigma's website!

You could also consider the Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 AI-S - IMHO this is Nikon's finest ever macro lens - its also superb at distance too, and these are cheap. Puts the 105mm VR to shame tbh.

I think you could find one one those on Ebay for under £90 no problem, not sure about the Sigma 90mm as its a lens I'd never heard of until I bought it!

I will be listing one of these (Tamron 90mm) for sale later tonight. Bought recently from these forums from Diddydave but not being used. It is in mint condition but without a box. I am just looking to get back what I paid for it which will be £185.00 + p&p. I picked it up from Dave when I went to the Joe Cornish talk in Barnsley in March.

Other than to test it when I first picked it up from Dave I have not used it to be honest. Hence the sale :) Dellipher sent me some great pics (Macro & portraits as this is an excellent portrait lens as well) but I have binned them as well.

That is the same lens however the one in the link has the AF motor built in. I'd safely assume that the one to be advertised does not have a motor (not a bad thing by any means) - cracking lens by all accounts.

I agree. Macro photography should be done with manual focusing. Having played with the Tamron 90mm before I can tell you it is an amazing lens.

Also, those pictures are simply amazing when you think of the cost involved to get them. It just goes to show that you don't have to spend megabucks to achieve the results you want. Just a little bit of practice and know-how. Great pics Puddleduck.
