Hi,

I bought a Sigma 300mm f/2.8 a few months ago and it was almost brand new.
However, I keep seeing photos of this lens that looks different to my one.

This photo looks like my lens: http://www.shotaddict.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/sigma-300mm-f28.jpg

But this one looks different: http://images.digitalcamerainfo.com/images/upload/Image/new/image/new/1sigma300f28.jpg

In the second photo there's a different attachment point at one end than my lens and the focusing ring seems to be able to be pulled down to enable manual focusing like my Sigma 24-70mm... whereas on my lens you can't do that.

I was wondering if my lens is the old or new version?

Thanks,

Joe

The second picture is the APO version of the lens and is for Nikon lenses.

The first one is the Canon fitment and is not APO

The first one looks like a Canon fit and looks the same as the current EX DG version in our house. Which is the current model.

That's good to hear grumpybadger... at least I know my "new" lens isn't the old version now :-)

J4MIE_P, the first picture is an APO version but it just doesn't have the large APO lettering written on the side, it has APO written smaller next to DG and HSM.

Thanks,

Joe

Ive got the one in the second image and love it. How are you finding it? How much did you pick yours up for out of interest?

I got mine for £1280 including postage from a guy who won it in a competition but already had the Canon version :-)

It is a fantastic lens!

The second shot is the newest version. I have the first version and love it. I'm sure I have a focusing problem with it attached to my 40D though

Are you sure the second photo is the newer one?
Grumpybadger says the first one is the current model, which does add up... the second photo has the large, italic APO lettering which is seen on the older models...
