Despite having a dose of the 'Man Flu' over the weekend, I managed to venture out on Saturday and try my hand at shooting some rugby again. I tried to take a few of the pointers from last time on board and while I'm (on the whole) not as happy with this batch I think I took a few positives from it.

Unfortunately, the weather wasn't as pleasant as the previous weekend and although there was the odd burst of sunshine it was mostly pretty gloomy and damp. Ever increasing ISO's as the afternoon went on meant I left pretty early in the second half with a mix of ok stuff and some really pants ones!

Anyway, this is Trowbridge vs Cooper Avon Tyres (Melksham), very much a bottom of the table clash.

They all look like really good sharp shots, but the white balance/exposure seems a little off in some of them. Nothing that photoshop couldnt fix, I would have a bash but you don't have the edit button on your profile :(

Really impressed with these. Massive improvement on the first batch. Nice work.

The ISO issue is always the case with winter sport. I covered a game for the paper on the weekend with floodlights and still packed up at half four - well, went and found a Maccy D's and wired my images in.

One bit of advice crop the dead space at the tops and sides for more drama but aside from that, very good.

And Diego should know Paul ... ;)

Although I am not a sports photographer ... I can see the improvement over the last set ... a great set of action shots ...

Keep it up and you'll be challenging the master ... :D

Thanks for the comments.

Looking at them again, the white balance is a little iffy... I blame the laptop! I'll take a look at that later.

I think I'll try swapping my lens/body combo around next time - 1D/70-200 & 20D/300mm to try and give me a bit more reach. I've cropped waaay more than I like already on most and with 4MP on the 1D there's not all that much scope for it. I guess it's all a learning process!

Thanks again!

All are lacking in contrast - get working in Photoshop and sort the levels out.

Some good images there though, just let down by poor (or none by the look of it) post production.

Very nice! Having tried shooting rugby myself now it's damned tricky isn't it! Give me speedway bikes going past at 70mph any day!
