OR ... the what's unusual in nature ... for this time of year in my garden ... or anywhere else for that matter ... thread ...

Well ... not one to spread myarms & dispondecency ... (much prefer Marmite but we'll leave that for another spread) ... :D ... or even listen to dribble about global warming ... who me ... :naughty:

... I have just nipped out into the garden to take these pics ...

This is the offending totally screwed up tree ... Corkscrew Hazel - Corylus avellana 'Contorta' ...

http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/gallery/data/629/RLG5093.jpg

And these are some of the naughty Catkins closer up ... they shouldn't be here ...

http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/gallery/data/629/RLG5091.jpg

According to all sources ... (there's a song in there somewhere isn't there ... :D) ... these danglies shouldn't be ... at least not until February ... and you can even see some of the many leaf buds already ...

So ... I thought someone might like tell me I'm kookoo ... :cuckoo: ... or ... alternatively post their own examples of what's going wrong in nature ...

BTB ... Yes my gear has emerged early from its hibernation too ... forced out against its will to take these few scabby, oof, non-tripodid, camera shook-up, under-exposed, over-shop'd and horrible pics ... :D ... and no apologies for quality ... that was not, after all the object of the exercise ... :gag: ... (how's that for an excuse for crap photography ?)

TFL ...

'bout time you got the camera out anyway. I hear Nikon are sending out snatch squads to recover under-utilised equipment.

I went to a country park last weekend, the ranger said they have trees in bud that shouldnt be yet, trees with new leaf growth, he said the seasons are all messed up.

Must be this global warming we keep hearing about ;)

Thanks Min & Ian ... ... thought I was going berzo for a while there ...

I love these plants too Min ... and they are, apparently, just a freak of nature rather than a man made thingy ...

If you do get one watch out for any straight growth ... has to be removed immediately as it saps strength from the curly bitz ... :D

It certainly ain't right ... I am going to send the pics to the RHS or someone to see if I can get some sort of response from them ...

No harm in trying ... ;)

Well it's official ... sort of ...

A reply from the Horticultural Advisor at the RHS ...

And I quote ..."Dear Mr Gilbert

Thank you for your email about catkins. I would expect these in late winter, but there are lots about now. I do hope they are not nipped by a freeze-up between now and February.

I hope this information helps and thank you for your comments.

Yours sincerely"

End Quote ... ;)

Not a man of many words and not sure it does ...

But at least it is an answer ... and for that I should be grateful ... shouldn't I ... :D
