View Full Version : Where's your forum name from?

Okay here's one for you.
Aside from those people that use their real names for their forum nicks, whats the reason behind yours and why did you choose it?
I'll start with mine.
Darksaber.
Its the nickname I've used online since around 2002, its the title of a Star Wars book written by Kevin Anderson about a standalone Death Star laser (capable of destroying planets) that wasn't tied to space station, it was in a ship that was the shape of a lightsaber hilt.
The book isn't all that great, but I was playing Jedi Knight 2 at the time and that nick seemed ideal, it kinda stuck.
I'd have chosen Matt for my nickname here but theres 30 of them already and I decided it was probably too complicated.
So thats me, get explaining :p :geek:
well.......
oh flip you said not those that use their real names !
Not very good at coming up with original names and therefore hence mine, and it is easy to remember. It also means I might remember my name.

Warspite (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Warspite_%281913%29)
Mines a name chosen and used since I started playing online games like Doom I/II, Quake , Quake 2, etc about 12 years (on dialup:'( ). Sounded a little more original at the time;).
Reason for this choice is that aswell as Computers and Photography, Im also interested in modern military history so chosen in tribute to this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Warspite_%281913%29) which served with distinction in both world wars.
So there you go, my secret is out (sad but there you have it):rules:

LOL
Its just what everyone calls me, my real names in my sig ;)
when i was young i bite the postman
I've had this name online for about 7 or 8 years now. It comes from Ghostface Killah - Wu Tang Clan.
OldGit....
Well it all started out when I started playing online games such as Medal of Honour where I was either: A) Getting the C**P kicked out of me every 2 seconds or B) Getting the C**P kicked out of me every 10 seconds on a good day. By the time I'd learned enough of the curve so I was able to stay alive long enough to return the above favours it was apparent I was the oldest bloke playing.
Also fits my demeanor. :D
Like my sig says I was born old. The Grumpy old men arn't a patch on me when I'm in a prime mood.

When my son started toddling he spent three weeks bouncing of everything going "gub gub gub" and we ended up refering to him as MrGubby. When I went online it seemed as good a nickname as any .
So here I am 8 years later , still the only MrGubby I've seen  .

Jimmy Lemon came about when I first went online back in 1994(ish) with a mate. We found a chat room and needed a username. He came up with Jimmy I came up with Lemon. Hence Jimmy Lemon was born. I kind of stole it. He was James Orange for a bit, but it didn't last.
Wow, just realised Jimmy Lemon is over 12 years old! thats a worry :(
I have only ever found one other Jimmy Lemon and he owned a refrigerated haulage company in the USA (somewhere) I have an email from him somewhere :D (though I did just find http://www.myspace.com/Jimmy_Lemon :( )
Oh yeah and my name has kind of evolved into Jimmy_Lemon as all forums etc wont accept a space :p
This is my old Quake 2 name that i used when I first started on the intaweb in about 1998. It stands for BigBadWolf, of course.

It's what I called my first 'real' motorbike (25 years after the mopeds of my teens) its, err, red in colour - saying that, so's the 2nd one I bought a few months ago (coincidence, honest!). Also gave the name to my website... no particular reason why
Kamion - used since 1997. Came from a minor character's name in one of David Eddings' books. :)
Later, I found it also meant 'truck' in Dutch. :P
Edit: Speaking of Quake and nicknames, I had a friend whose Quake nickname was "your mother". The messages that came out from the game whenever he killed someone or got killed by another player was hilarious!
"your mother just sucked on XXX's pineapples"
"XXX was blasted by your mother"

Dark Star is John Carpenter's first and finest film...recommended viewing!
Remembered more for Dan O'Bannon and John Carpenter's screenplay than for the film itself, though the inspired final shot of the crewman surfing into the planet's amosphere to the tune of 'Benson, Arizona' does tend to linger in the memory.
A precursor to Ridley Scott's 'Alien', for which O'Bannon wrote the original screenplay (and nearly got cut out of the loop on - watch the 'making of' docco on the new issue Alien DVD).
Arkady Renko was the Militia Investigator in the book Gorky Park. RKD also stands for Rob Knight Digital Photography...

I dunno, I never saw a thread :(
Arkady Renko was the Militia Investigator in the book Gorky Park.
I've just finished another book (Dogs Eat Wolves) by the same author with Arkady Renko in it, so I guessed that was where it came from. Strangely enough Arkady is the name of a character in The Ambler Warning by Robert Ludlum which I have just started reading. Two books in a row with an Arkady in them - yikes! :nono:
Mine comes from my golfing prowess - or lack thereof! :D
I had a vague (nothing unusual there!) feeling that there was a thread a while back that started talking about something else and then morphed into online ID's and the reason for them. Don't remember a specific thread though I must admit.
minimeeze
01-12-2006, 08:55
Yes, there was a thread some time ago about how we all got our usernames :p Lots of newbies since then though.
Minimeeze stems from when I used to own 2 siamese cats (otherwise known as 'meezers'). The oldest of the two was nicknamed Meeze, and the kitten was 'minimeeze', hence my username. Anywhere you see minimeeze on the net, it's probably me ;)

Well, I have been known on the 'web' for the past 5/6 years by the same name but I decided it was about time I got myself a new username! This isn't a very happy tale but I'll keep it brief.
DRB are the initials of my late partner who sadly passed away in June 2005. He loved photography and since he's been gone I'm out there doing it for the both of us! So thats it...no relation to my real name (Natalya) but the most important initials in my life! :)

.
Braeden was my online persona when I was a forum admin for neverwinter nights stratics, eagerly awaiting the release of the game of the same name so that I could play on the nwn stratics server.
Braeden also means "from the dark valley" so my sig there was "From the Dark Valley comes your destruction, and your salvation" with a rather neat image created for me by another forum user. I thought it was clever :)
The character I had created was based on a character called Baralis from JV Jones' Book of Words series - a dark magician dabbling in poison and directing chaos from behind the scenes.
On other forums I am known as Demrog, which is based on an old Ultima Online character I had that transformed into a D&D character and then a Dark Age of Camelot Character. I suspect I am known by more people as Demrog than know me by my real name :)

The Big Kahuna

Spent a lot of time in Hawaii and have a lot of friends there. They call me "The Big Kahuna" because of my love of the place and the fact that I support the Hawaiian Sovereignty Movement (Go Bumpy !!).
Kahuna is Hawaiian for "priest" (more or less, is was the blokey who looked after the "kapu" laws...basically, the bloke who cut off your testicles for looking at the king in a funny way on a tuesday). Therefore, the BIG kahuna, is the top dude.
****** all to do with either:
a. the brand of watch (which I happen to own one of, but I collect watches anyway)

Forbiddenbiker
03-12-2006, 11:01
Mine came from being forbidden from riding when ever a friend comes to stay...the last time she came over, I managed to have a bad crash on my bike a few days after she'd arrived, I was fine, just, but I had ripped all my leg tendons in my groin....needless to say, she spent the rest of her holiday looking after me, and was particularly frustrated at me being absolutely useless in bed. So, with a grin she'd say...you’re forbidden from ridding bikes whenever I come over. lol, what made it worse is all my mates new as well so they'd take the **** and say, no, no your a forbidden biker now, get on the back you pillion. :(
The reason the name stuck is because I was actually quite shocked at my stupid accident, I'd managed to ride into the back of a car at 70mph, flew straight over the top and landed on my face 50 ft down the road...and did the splits in the process apparently.
It made me think... I ride like a complete fool, even after 25 years of riding... so I joined her and my family in reducing my risk by only ridding smaller bikes. So it should really read...Forbidden from riding when Elian comes over and from anything bigger than 400cc’s biker.
..So I went a bought a CBR400RR (I know :bang: )…not exactly slow…and it doesn’t really help to reduce my risk, but the username does remind me of my stupidness…and I do try to drive the van most of the time.

One of my nicknames used to be "Twink" due to my remarkable resemblance to the Pink Faries band member of the same name !
Just remember that that was about 25 years ago so I don't really look like him now :|

Mine is taken from the superb Queensryche album of the 80's, Operation:Mindcrime. I loved the album and took part of the name; a bit boring really.
Thus proving what fantastic taste you have in music!
Mine is my website name...in the past I have always used rocker666, if you see that anywhere online, chances are it's me. That's based around being a BIG fan of rock/metal
I just thought I ought to do something a bit more promotional this time lol

Well "Photostar" came about 'cos my son is in a band called Roadstar and I photo them whenever I can (roadstar/photostar....get it??) ........yeah I know, really lame, but I'm hopeless at thinking up clever usernames! If anyone can think of anything better..........:D
Your son is in Roadstar? Cool, saw them a couple of times when they were called Hurricane Party, think they were supporting Queensryche at the time...

ppp stands for ****poorping, which also comes from gaming online with dial-up, my connection was always slow so i had a bad ping in games, just stuck, sometimes I just use ppp or ****poor now.

Mine is a reference to the brand of camera I use.
Nikon users are known as Darksiders on certain forums and also Noinks, I thought Darksider was a bit cooler than Noink.
I am also known as Bad Bad Man on a private photography forum and plain old Stewart Smith on another. :)

Well as I use my name, I will have to share with you the ones I was to shy to use on the forum.
Streaka - as in Lanky Streaka P*** - reference to me being 6'6"
Big Willy - Reference to my size and name, but thought it was a bit naff when someone suggested it.
I use Shadow on most of the forums I'm a member of.
It goes back to the days I used to play ice hockey where I would check someone before they realised I was there.
A player said to me a the end of the game "What are you? My Shadow"
It stuck ever since.

'AJD' - my initials
'ESQ' - suffix for Mister.
When a teenager, my friends for a laugh called me A-J-D-E-S-Q. It kind of stuck, and makes a good internet name as no-one else uses it, and it's only 6 characters long. Makes me easy to spot on any forum though!

I have an interest in maps, can sit and browse a map for hours; like other people browse books and the web. When I first came on the internet I used the name Navigator; but it was too common, I kept getting knocked back as it was already in use. So I started useing the name of the greatest Navigator in history 'Ferdinand Magellan (1480-1521)' Get on most places with it
:geek:

I love being awkward... hence why I always sign 'Andrew!'

One of my friends got my name wrong and said mook instead of Mike & then it changed to moo & then... well you can probably guess the rest.
One of my other friends little sister (3 years old at the time) also started calling me Bob (no idea why?) but oddly enough that ones never stuck as a forum name :p

Mine came to me in a flash, well maybe a bang as well, oh and the smell of something burning. It was shortly after I had stuck me hand in a panel to grab a lose wire and discovered 415 volts was there (silly billy, forgot to isolate the thing). Never mind, standing up to me ankles in water gave the electrons a nice clean path to earth. The rest as they say is history :cuckoo:
DoubleT-

Mine comes from a nickname i've had for the last 11 years, mole. I went to sign up to a forum shortly into the millenium but there was already a member called mole so i hadded the 2k suffix and its stuck.
Milou after Tintin's dog Snowy. When I first started played Unreal Tourney online, everyone was either called Crusher or Destroyer or Deathbringer so I guessed milou brought a certain fluffy aspect.

Mine is short for Jucklebutt, which I used for gameplaying. Some forums did not allow it because of the 'butt' on the end apparently , so that's why I use the shortened version.
As far as I know Jucklebutt was just a name I made-up and haven't seen it used elsewhere :)

Succulent pieces of lamb or chicken stir-fried with fresh green chillies, ginger, garlic and onions.
Red and green capsicums give this dish a vibrant appearance and a spicy taste.
Gorkali (lamb or chicken) .................................................. .................................................. .................................. £9.00
Cooked in an exotic mix of whole spices, with julienne cut red and green peppers, whole dried red chillies, fresh tomatoes
and a special chilli sauce. This delightful spicy indo-chinese dish is served exclusively to Indian Ocean diners.

Messiah Khan
29-06-2007, 12:40
Messiah Khan
Im called Alasdair, or Ali for short.
My nick used to be Lord Ali.
I used to play a Games Workshop game called Necromunda, and I gave one of my characters the silly name of Kha'Shara Khan (Can't beat a hypen in the middle of a name, and Khan means emperor or tribal leader)
Nick then changed between Lord Ali, Lord Khan, Ali Khan, Messiah Ali, eventually finding stopping at Messiah Khan (Saviour Emperor, or the saviour of the emperors). Ive now got that many accounts and logins under that name, thats its going to be hard to ever change it. but I quite like it anyway, so I don't really want to change it any time soon.

ahhh my online name has gone a bit full circle - school nickname is obviously my surname with a y on the end - clever children.
when i first made a hotmail account i think it was 2003 - and i made the foolish mistake of dating my hotmail acount placey2003 as placey was already taken - eventually i went broadband so it made sense to call myself broadbandplacey on hotmail and forums etc - but now i'm back round to my normal name - more adult and all ;)
used to play CS under the .: Placey :. tag though
I grew dreads for 7 years down to my arris, then had enough of them and got shorn :)

My two first names, one from each Grandfather...:bonk:
Puz is short for Puzuma, an animal from Terry Pratchetts Discworld. It's mentioned only a few times but here's a cut from Wiki...
Ambiguous Puzuma
A big cat with a quite unique black and white check coat, the ambiguous puzuma is the Disc's fastest animal. Because of the Disc's standing magical field, which slows down light to approximately the speed of sound, the puzuma can actually achieve near-light-speed. Because of this, seeing a puzuma in motion means it isn't there. Puzumas commonly die from complications caused by Sangrit Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle; they lose concentration because they cannot simultaneously know who they are and where they are, frequently causing them to crash into an obstacle. Many males also die from ankle failure caused by excessively running after females who aren't present.
Sums me up (esp the last bit) ;) ! I've used it since 93 as a username for Demon Internet dialup and it's just stuck.. Umpteen different flavours of online games, I've always been the same
