View Full Version : Canon Converter 1.4x 46
I'm looking for information on this item that's for sale on eBay. Will it fit & work with EOS 400D? What does the 46 mean? I see nothing similar on canon's website.
Might be a good idea to paste up a link to the item on eBay Greg.
As for compatibility - the key thing is the lens, NOT the camera. Yes the if this is a standard 1.4x TC it will fit onto the 400D body, but if you don't have lenses it'll work with then it'll be of no help to you. If you check Canon's site they did have a compatability chart for the TCs - try here (http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Cameras/EF_Lenses/Extenders/index.asp?ComponentID=25207&SourcePageID=26112#2)for details. In short, most L series lenses and some straight primes I think. Something to mention is that you will lose a stop in light with a 1.4x though.
The Canon TL46 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Canon-TL-46-1-4x-Tele-Converter-Lens_W0QQitemZ130053189060QQihZ003QQcategoryZ29964 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) is the 1.4x Camcorder lens extender, what you want is the Canon EF1.4x II (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Canon-1-4X-MK-II-Tele-Converter-Extender-1-4-MKII_W0QQitemZ190055683053QQihZ009QQcategoryZ4687Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
Hope that helps.
AS Witch has said the EF1.4x II only works with a handful of lenses, see the 2nd ebay link for details of which lenses are compatible.
Thanks for the info. I won't post up the link as it seems clear that this is in fact a camcorder extender. The seller did not respond to my questions.
Greg.
You can fit the Canon 1.4X TC to any Canon lens 135mm or longer. IS will be maintained with any lens which has it. You do however lose 1 stop of the effective max aperture of your lens.
Autofocus is the tricky bit, and it depends on which Canon body and lens combo you have whether it will still AF with the TC fitted.
1 Series bodies will still AF as long as the new effective max aperture is not smaller than F8
All others, 300D, 10D, 350D, 20D, 400D, 5D, will only autofocus as long as the new effective max aperture is not smaller than F5.6.
You can fit the Canon 1.4X TC to any Canon lens 135mm or longer.
CT i'm afraid thats not 100% true, there are a few which it will not work with, notably the 135 f2.8, and the 28-300 f3.5-5.6L IS both current models.
here is a list of current models it works with.

There are lots of discontinued models the converter will also work on.
