I am sure you meant Young Blue Eyes ... :D
Anyway ... apart from the slightly distracting background it appears ... to me at least ... as if there is different focus eye to eye ... might just be my own playing up of course ... even if they are a similar colour ... mine really are old ... :D
Other than that a good portrait Dave ...
:p
his little brother or sister is due any day now so he will be old blue eyes "to us anyway" just practising ready for new arrival .

Unless she has brown ones ... :D
Congratulations then Dave ... hope everything goes alright with the newbie ...

Nice capture but...
What have you done to his eyes and forehead?
The hair is Wayyy over sharpened and the eyes look detached they dont fit on the face.

Yup that's much better.
A little sharpening and background blur will do wonders.. hang on give me 5 mins
(you can start your watch now)

OK I lied 10 mins.
I think it shows the potential (otherwise I wouldnt have posted it).
Shoot me down in flames if you want
2nd glance.. I screwed up the hair, but I did take < 10 mins including uploading :)
thanks oldgit like what you have done there.i never mind anyone helping me
.
FYI ... if it helps..
Duplicated the background layer
Chose the RED channel and duplicated it (had the most contrast). Then used curves to convert to b&W (wiv some greys). Applied this as a selection and converted to a mask.
Then filled in the face as this was unmasked and removed an area to the right as this was (and was not part of the kid).
At this point (or in previous curves section) I should have paid more atention to the hair.
Blurred the background (using lens blur - tho others would work too).
Pushed (darkend and saturated) the face a little
Applied a small amount of USM (didnt bother this time with high pass and lighting, tho in this case it would probably do a better job)
You don't get much DOF with the nifty fifty when you're working that close, and I don't think you've quite got either eye optimally sharp. With his face being turned at a slight angle, it's more than enough to throw one eye oof more than the other.
You can edit and sharpen to a degree as oldigt's edit shows, but it's never gonna knock your eye out like it will if you get it sharp on the sensor to start with. Don't rush the shots, set up carefully and use a tripod.
The next one will be better Dave, that lens is capable of razor sharp results. :)
