hi
just up graded but was put off by the feel of the 5d 11 not a patch on the buil or feel of the nikon 700.
so ditched and moved over.
sold the whole kit an dpurchased 700 and 50 mm 1.4.
outstanding quality.
with 3k should be able to get an out standing package with that, in the nikon range.
had been with canon since 7 years old when me old man bought me one. now 46 and just changed over, so that in itself speaks volumes.
mho.

The 5D mkII is a fantastic camera and I can't imagine you have any issues with it in either handling or quality.
As for the best place to get the kit; that depends on your own priorities. Are you more concerned with price or service? If it's price http://www.warehouseexpress.com is a good place I think. If you want to go in to a shop and touch and feel and talk about the kit, you'll need to find a good shop.
I bought my first dSLR from Jessops and the second, from a chap on this site. Up in the north west, we have a chain called Jacobs which is where I tend to get my 'bits and pieces of gear these days (although I don't buy much gear these days) and they seem to be a outfit to me.
Good luck with spending your 3 grand.

No, Sony let me play with things as and when, but if I were dropping money onto a system I would definately think about the A900 Zeiss lens combo's.

I have just spent a similar amount and managed to get a 5d Mk ii, 24-70 f2.8L, Canon battery grip and additional battery from our very own Kerso - his prices were excellent, comparable to the HK sites in price but with the added bonus of a UK receipt and supporting a fellow forum member. Fingers crossed I get it all this week!

May I ask how much was the grip and battery?

You can kill 2 birds with one stone as WEX are good on price plus you can go into the showroom and test drive it :)

May I ask how much was the grip and battery?
Prices he quoted me below;
Canon 5d Mark II £1895
Canon BG-E6 battery grip £199
Canon LP-E6 battery £70
Canon EF 24-70 f2.8 L lens £885
Plus postage - you will need to send him a private message when you are ready to buy, because he only holds the prices for 24 hours because of the exchange rate constantly fluctuating - if you get yours cheaper because of this, please don't tell me :runaway:
£269 is a LOT of money to add a grip...
i thought about binning the 1dmk2 and 40d to switch to nikon, what kept me at canon was L glass, with nikon you have a standard range of lenses then nothing until the mega £ top end stuff.....i bought a 5D for studio use because i wouldn't gain anything by having a 5Dmk2.....i do miss my 40D though :(

Yeah I know, apparently the new 5d uses a brand new battery, which provides feedback of the percentage of battery life left and a 5 star rating of overall condition of the batterym it will also store the records for a number of batteries - but all this comes at a price!!!!!!
If you check on camera price buster amazon is the cheapest at £199 for the grip with batteries at £71.49 plus del so I think he is there or there abouts!!
Amazon also have a 'special' package offer of £2,321.70 for 5d mkii, grip and battery, which at the prices I paid through kerso is quite a bit more expensive!
I managed to get 2 spare batteries just before the prices went up. They were £50 when I bought them. Should have bought the grip at the same time.
I love my 5dII. and although the nikon D700 has it pro's, i think the canon lens system is better overall than Nikom - the nikon range needs allot of updating.
But if you do get a 70-200, do yourself a favour and get the IS version. Non IS at 200 is hard to hand-hold.
On FF you will also find the 70-200 range allot more usefull in many situations compared to on 1.6 crop bodies. The IS is worth every penny and the f/4 IS is super sharp wide open and the IS is good for 3 or 4 stops hand-held.
