View Full Version : My fave portrait
OK, be gentle with me, it's my first time up for critiquing.
This is one of my favourite pix. It started life as a mistake, as it was underexposed. I love candids so don't always have the luxury of a good set-up. I lightened it up and added some noise in Photoshop Elements.
It's a purser on a moving train, sitting down and doing her paperwork:

Taken with a Fuji Finepix S7000.
Whaddaya think?
Nice shot and a lovely smile. You can tell it was under-exposed. Recovering from that much under-exposure increases the noise and it's ended up looking very flat.
It's a real shame, but we've all done it. ;)
Not much definition or range of shades tbh. :( Looks a little dull. Pretty girl though ;)

Did you get her to sign a release, by any chance? Cos then you got her phone number... ;)
Nice capture though - shame the lighting's a little flat and the noise, etc.
It looks like there's plenty of scope for recovering the exposure:

it's a bit limiting working on a low res version but the original should be fine and show off a lovely capture to its best.
Wow Pxl8! How did you DO that?!! Could I do the same in Elements2?
Thanks for the feedback everyone... hmm, I think it's Vanessa's smile that recovers the shot more than any photographic skills!
See? I bet you're glad you came on here now, aren't you? Offer up a hi-res image (by link) and we'll really show you something...

Sure, no special techniques used. I'm off to do a shoot this evening but I'll try and put together a step by step in the next day or so.

ajdesq in Elements 2 try Auto Levels for a quick fix, you'll find it under the Enhance button on the top toolbar.
I think..
Thanks for that! Will give it a go...
good shot, nice girl, pretty smile, and pxl8 has nailed it well.
Great potential as the original is a cracking capture... hope you get the results you deserve.
