View Full Version : Site speed slowdowns?
Last week or so this site seems to have short 'go slow' periods. I click a link and it takes ages to load...20 seconds later I click something else and it loads fine.
Just wondering if anyone else is seeing the same thing?
ive had a few of these robert i just though it was my old pc ...?
I've noticed it slowing down on the very odd occasion. It usually 'hangs' at around midnight for about 30 seconds or so. I think that's down to the server backups though.
I know the site went for the early hours of this morning for a few minutes (Didn't take me long to raise a ticket with the hosts ;)), but it was back a few minutes later.
I've not noticed it going overly slow though. Maybe one or two stalls.
We'll certainly keep an eye on it, and drop a note to the hosts should it become problematic.
Is it problematic for you guys at the mo? (We don't want any users being inconvenienced :))
not at all but i will let you know if it slows me doooowwwwwwnnnn
:p
lol
I've just checked and the server has had an extra 4 gig installed last night (which was the reason for the short downtime).
Also, this server will be locked off later this week, as they're installing a new one for other accounts. So *hopefully* any problems should now be resolved.....hopefully :)
I just had to wait 30 seconds as a 'quick reply' posted so its not fixed. No big deal at the moment but could get annoying if it worsens.
edit : this quick reply took about 4 seconds

I have experienced the same 'slowness' since last night ... still going on now ... only on TP though ... everything else is fine ...

Not had any lasting problems, but it did stall a few times around lunchtime - almost like it was overloaded. Seems fine now though
Yes - I've experienced a bit of slownessness here and there, and as the forum grows, and more & more plugins // extras are added (of IMO questionable usefulness) I would not be surprised if it gets progressively worse.
I don't like vb, I find it almost always ends up being too slow & cumbersome.
Cheers for the replies guys :)
We only have very minimal plugins installed (for the exact reason you mention Hoodi), the only thing added recently is the YouTube feature, which isn't a plugin. All that is, is a code replacement feature.
To embed a YouTube video, requires HTML code posting, and we can't turn that on for security reasons, but because the actual code doesn't change, only the video ID, we can program the HTML bit for you, so you only put [youtube] round the video ID....
Hope that makes sense.
I'll have a whizz through the forum settings later, again, and make sure we're running with optimal settings.
Thanks for keeping us updated :)
I have submitted a ticket with the hosts, outlining what you've all said to us about speed etc, and mentioning todays 'dropoffs'.
That was about half an hour ago, and I'm not sure if it's connected but the forums seem to be whizzing along nicely now :)
checking the stats for site use, we are very very busy, the amount of hits so far this month is huge! We will try and resolve this though, as it can be very very annoying
I run several servers down in London, and I must admit that for the number of hits this site seems to get it runs very nicely! Noticed the first bit of downtime this afternoon where I couldn't get on to the site at all for about 10 mins, but it may have been a routing issue - not a problem with the server/host.
Mind me asking who TP's hosted with? I notice that PacketExchange own the address the server resides on - is it directly colocated with them?
We're currently using Register1
Been slow for me too, at one point couldn't even get on the site for about 10 mins kept getting an error page :bang:
