I'm torn here, finding it hard to get a S5 pro new, everywhere seems out of stock apart from one place that has got 2. There £625 including a 1gb card, I know I'll need bigger on the card front though so that's a false economy.

Or, I can get a 2nd hand but less than 500 actuations D200 for £475.

I'm currently a year long D40 owner with a sigma 17-50mm, nikon 50mm 1.8 and Sigma 170-500 APO DG.

They may look the same but they're completely different beasts, keep searching for an S5 Pro - Calumet had some a few weeks back, but they were well over £500, even at that they may all be gone now.....

Also, look around for a secondhand S5 Pro too... I got mine for £425, 8gb's worth of CF cards, spare battery and a cable release... It only had 600-700 actuations on it too. :)

They seem like a lot of camera for the price, no wonder there so hard to get hold off.

At one point, not that long ago, refurb ones direct from Fuji were under £350 and new ones just over £400 - which was less than a well used D200 was selling for :cuckoo:

With no one seemingly having them in stock, are we to guess there's an S5 Pro Mk2 or an S7 on the way? Would be nice in a D3 body like the S1 and S2 with a built-in grip

I've heard rumours that Fuji are finished with this section of the market..

Edit: I've just noticed that they have discontinued supplies of the S5 battery as well

My understanding is Fuji won't produce an S6 or whatever unless convinced of the market potential. Apparently in the current climate they are not

Really!! That's quite a shock. Suppose they aren't 'competing' with the big boys with just one DSLR. Plus, they have a shedload of compacts that must have a fairly sizable market share.

To the OP, take a look at the older S3 as well, same sensor, but in an older Nikon-film body - around £2-250 for a decent one

They had to buy the bodies for the S5 and all the other fujis S series for that matter from Nikon so there's probably no profit in it now.

I took a broken S1 pro apart once, I was surprised to find it was a converted film body as it had the spaces inside where the film canister would go
