I have a 18-210 telephoto lense for my Canon EOS400D it worked fine for about 6Mths and now when i use it it comes up with an error message.
Somtimes it will take 1or 2 shots first then it just sayes error remove battery and try again, I think the chip as gone any ideas ????

I think the usual recommended first step for these kind of errors is to clean the electrical contacts on the lens and camera body to ensure an accurate connection.

Is it only 6 months old? If so I would just send it back under the warranty.

:agree:

Often cleaning the contacts on the back of the lens with a pencil rubber can help out with this kind of thing. But if you've already done this and it's still under warranty it really would be wiser to just call Canon and get them to check it out.

How much over 12 months - given all the stuff in the press recently about how the EU enforces a 2 year warranty and the sale of goods act can give you benefit up to 5 years, I would have a quick word with trading standards about where you stand.

But yes use a rubber to clean the contacts.
