Hi Guys,
Sorry if this has been done before, I am considering buying a tripod but what do I go for? I am looking in the up to £50 bracket.
Want to try some low light photography, waterfalls and landscape.
Cheers

Something lightweight, but very sturdy...

For £50, your best bet would be a Redsnapper, but IMHO doesn't compete with a Gitzo (£450 plus).

The sturdier the better and if you're gonna be walking about a lot, then it needs to be reasonably light.

Whether you're a beginner or not, a rigid tripod is the way to go forward as camera shake will happen with a flimsy unit, pro or casual photographer.

Alan,

Generally speaking, with tripods you get what you pay for. Stability is a key factor.

The red snapper brand has quite a large following. The tripod can be bought for £50, but you then have to buy a head. The three way head is £30.

I've got a redsnapper, very happy with it. I've got the ball head.

some sound advice here alan....take it from me,it will be false economy to buy a cheap tripod.although i don't have one,the redsnapper tripods come highly recommended...value for your money, plus 10% off for TP members.i personally use a manfrotto 190 XPROB plus an 804RC2 head, but that will set you back approx £140.

a manfrotto 190xdb+486RC2 head should be enough, cost £100

I finally settled down with Manfrotto 190xprob with standard 3 way head. After wasting money on Jessops tripod, and much better Velbon, I picked this up a few months ago. I don't use it that much but the difference is clear. It extends much taller, and is rock solid. Also you can't beat it for macro work. If you need a good one better save up and pay only once.

I have a redsnapper and a 190,for what I do,I prefer the Redsnapper all day long over the 190.

Can you please elaborate on this, as I'm torn between the two tripods, and the RHS-12 vs.488RC2/RC4 heads.
