Currently have a Tamron 55-200 that I picked up for my A700 now I know its not great and its short but would it be any good as a motorsport lens?
Trying to decide whether to sell it on and invest in something else or to keep it.
I would have thought longer was better but it I think it depends where you stand near the track.
seems obvious but are you pro, track side? crowd etc??

Crowd, and probably Knockhill.
others will be familiar with the track. 300 is nicer if you can manage it and IS is great at that range. also if it's 300 you can full back a bit and not be on the edge of your lens
But i guess you have IS built into your SLR body don't you :p

it's very good optically - way better than it's original price would suggest.

Cheers folks, just sold my 55-200 so may well be on the lookout for something in the 300mm range fairly shortly.

As mentioned for a telephoto lens really want something that I can use for motorsport how would a Minolta 100-300 APO or a Sony 70-300 G SSM fare?

if you can afford the G SSM get it, if you can afford the 70-400mm G SSM get that instead (it's not just longer but faster aperture wise).
