Hi guys was out with my macro lens yesterday and all was fine, and then went to take another shot and now the autofocus makes a horrible screeching sound whenever the front extends. If I focus completely manually, or mostly manual and then switch to auto for the last tad of focus all is fine, otherwise my camera makes a horrible racket.
What should I do?

What should I do?
I might be going out on a limb with this one, but sending in for repair might be the best option?

Yup sorry guess I should've been more specific, its a 2nd hand lens so do I just call up Sigma and explain and then they charge me almost the cost of a new lens to try and fix it?

Looks like £73.39 for your lens.
If its a Sigma UK lens, you might get a nice suprise on how reasonable they can be.

it sounds like the gears have gone...happened to mine a year ago.
your not a sony user per chance?sony's motor is so strong, the cameras are known to make light work of the sigma gears.

350D mate, how much did it cost you to get yours fixed? also what's then turn around like? Bit dissapointed as I've only had it myself a month or 2.

hmm I'm on hols in a couple of week so I'll guess I'll just have to stick with manual focus, and then send it off when I get back. Cheers for the info guys.

And in two weeks' time I reckon you won't think about AF - apart from getting the lens put right that is!
I use mine mostly now on MF - but then it's 95% used with a tripod.

Well I've just spoken to the guy I bought the lens off and apparently sigma replaced the AF motor earlier this year, so hopefully it should still be under warranty, waiting to hear more atm.
