Right, basically I'm looking for a fast prime lens around 28mm, Canon fit. I've narrowed it down to the Canon EF 28mm f1.8 USM (http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product/default.aspx?sku=12809) and the Sigma 28mm f1.8 EX DG (http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product/default.aspx?sku=13046).

I'm currently leaning towards the Sigma because I've read some bad things about the Canon, apparently it's not that sharp. The Sigma, although not so widely reviewed, is also cheaper.

I'd basically like opinions or other ideas for primes around this focal length. Would I be making a reasonable choice going for the Sigma? My budget won't stretch much further than these prices either.

Thanks.

I've not heard any bad things about the Canon 28 1.8, quite the opposite.

I used to own the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 and rather liked it, even though I never used it. I think it may well be up for sale again currently in the Classified section (from chillimonster). About £200 IIRC, which is a bit of a bargain.

I bought it in preference to the 28 1.8 as I too wanted a fast prime, and 1.4 is 2/3rd stop faster than 1.8.

1.4 is a stop faster than 1.8 :p

EDIT: Disregard that, I'm an idiot. lol.

I would love to get hold of the 28mm 1.8 prime for my camera. Been looking for something wider than the 50mm as on a crop sensor its a bit too restrictive and also the 28mm is a nice wide prime on the film camera as well.
