Hi and welcome :)

With the 350D and lens/converter option you have it will lose autofocus. Only the pro bodies can maintain AF with any of the converters fitted and max aperture of F8

I have the same with my 20D and 100-400 with the 1.4 or 2x TC fitted.

Only the 1 series cameras can focus with a minimum aperture greater than f5.6, and due to the extender the aperture is now f8.

It will work but you lose autofocus - as you describe.

All I can say is you will have to focus manually:(

LOL. Happy New Year Chris. There is a work around for your problem which involves putting a bit of sticky tape over a couple of the contacts on the converter. It seems work for some and not others. :)
