View Full Version : I'm back! :)
OK So you're probably all going "didn't even know you'd been gone!" !!
I spent the last 3 weeks in isolation in hospital here in Leeds with an infection in my brain and lungs :( Sadly this has left me very weak and unable to walk more than a few steps. I have had various pieces of 'equipment' installed around the house to make life a little bit easier but recovery will be a long and slow process :(
Bummer! Photography is a real passion of mine and sadly at the moment I am very limited with what I can do but I have decided to try a 'Picture A Day' Blog for 2007, hopefully this will go some way to stopping the boredom from setting in!! So thought I'd take this opportunity to show you all the first 2 days...
MY PAD BLOG 2007 (http://www.talj.blogspot.com)
Would love you guys to check it out, feel free to leave comments and keep popping back :)
Thanks for reading.
Best wishes to each of you for 2007,
Natalya :)
Eeewwww. Not fun.
Get well soon as they say.

So sorry to hear your bad news :( I hope taking photos helps to keep you going
Welcome back Natalya.
So sorry to hear about your recent problems, but good to hear youre on the mend now.

Was going to say "sounds serious" but that would be understatement of the year in only the 3rd day :D
Good that your still here, good to have you back, and hopefully you'll make a fast and complete recovery
Take it easy:D
(off to look at the blog:D)
Thanks for your kind words guys :) It's really appreciated. Although I am home things are going to be difficult for quite sometime and I need to just realise that for the forseeable future I can't do all things I used to. BUT! I'm a fighter :o) I've come too far to let a little thing like this get me down :)
Thanks also for checking out the blog, I am currently in the middle of taking todays photo but its proving a little more difficult than I expected!!

Hi there  Hope you get well quickly, but in the meantime just enjoy the things you can do.
:
One question ... Talj ...
Hehehe ;)
I have been known as talj in various places for many years!! Originally it comes from naTALya and my surname begins with the letter J (Jagger...no relation!) so equalling talj :) Hope that helps? :)
Oh and thanks for the comments!! ;) Very much appreciated :)

DAY 4 (http://talj.blogspot.com/) of my Photo A Day for 2007 is up and I would really appreciate any comments you guys have as I struggled with todays!!
Thanks for reading :o)
A totally shameful plug for feedback on todays Photo A Day (http://talj.blogspot.com/) all comments would be gratefully received :)
thanks for reading :)
Welcome back! I too am doing a photo a day blog. I'll add your link to my friends list :)
Sorry to hear of your illness, at least you're on the road to recovery, which is the right direction.
Hope you're feeling much better soon. I know how hard it is to find a photo a day without being poorly too, so kudos to you for keeping it up!
I'll be checking back daily, and also feel free to keep sharing the shots with us on the forums. We don't mind a bit of personal pimpage from regulars :)
Am adding you to myPAD links and will be sure to check in daily! I am trying to post my image and then comment on everyone in my PAD links list! Gives me something to do to pass the time!
Had a little setback yesterday, I had another blackout andhave managed to sprain my wrist which is a bugger when I was already struggling to walk with my crutches :( Just means at the grand old age of 26 I now have home help coming in twice a day!! Nothing depresses a stubborn independent person more than admitting you cant cope! But hey ho, I'll get better....I WILL GET BETTER!
Thanks for the good wishes...off to add you to my links...will comment on your PAD's tomorrow (if it allows me?) :)
Yup it allows unregistered comments :)
I've just left a comment on your day 4

DAY 6 (http://talj.blogspot.com/) of my Photo a Day 2007 journey. Would love comments/feedback on this image as I am not sure if it 'works' or not :)
I've replied. :)
I certainly do think it works. Your images this week have been excellent. And as someone has said on the recent 'day's comments, I think they may do quite well as stock shots.
Thanks Marcel and all of you for checking in.
It's not been a good 24 hours for me, a trip to A&E and some rather nasty but nice morphine injections. Am not doing too good but have posted DAY 7 (http://www.talj.blogspot.com) of my Photo A Day.
This may have to be the last post I make for a few days unless my health improves dramtically...we'll see....
Thanks for checking my Photo a Day out :)

DAY 12 (http://talj.blogspot.com/) is posted and its another guessing game today :)
Health grill? :D
I was going to say George Foreman, but they dont have recesses like that, they have wide recessed with thinner ridges.
And I'd say the lid, rather than the bottom half.

Question: How do you get the background so black? :) Do you use Photoshop's quickmask to select only the subject and copy it onto a blank lack background image?
Hi, thanks for the question. I use a very thick piece of black material as my background. I place my subject at a reasonable distance from the background and my camera is always in manual so I have the best control over the exposure. There is no cutting and moving things in photoshop.
Hope this helps :)

that really is an amazing collection of photos - do you do anything with these images? do you upload them to stock photo sites? I am sure they would go down a storm!

Hey Jimmy :) Thanks for your post :) I don't upload my shots anywhere, you really think I should? I wouldn't even know where to get started...
DAY 8 (http://talj.blogspot.com/) of February! :) 20 more bears to go!!!
thanks for the explanation! :)
What is the material you use for the black background then? I bought some black card thingies from a stationary store but that didn't work too well. :(
I have a very thick piece of black material that I bought from a market stall. I find it works better than card :)

Hi DRB,
I don't know you, as I've just recently joined the forum. Get well soon.
Here's a joke to cheer you up. ;)
One day Bill complained to his friend that his elbow really hurt. His friend suggested that he go to a computer at the chemist's that can diagnose anything quicker and cheaper than a doctor.
''Simply put in a sample of your urine and the computer will diagnose your problem and tell you what you can do about it. It only costs £10." Bill figured he had nothing to lose, so he filled a jar with a urine sample and went to the drug store. Finding the computer, he poured in the sample and deposited the £10. The computer started making some noise and various lights started flashing. After a brief pause out popped a small slip of paper on which was printed: "You have tennis elbow. Soak your arm in warm water. Avoid heavy lifting. It will be better in two weeks."
Later that evening while thinking how amazing this new technology was and how it would change medical science forever, he began to wonder if this machine could be fooled. He mixed together some tap water, a stool sample from his dog and urine samples from his wife and daughter. To top it off, he masturbated into the concoction. He went back to the drug store, located the machine, poured in the sample and deposited the £10. The computer again made the usual noise and printed out the following message:
"Your tap water is too hard. Get a water softener. Your dog has worms. Get him vitamins. Your daughter is using cocaine. Put her in a rehabilitation clinic. Your wife is pregnant with twin girls. They aren't yours. Get a lawyer. And if you don't stop jerking off, your tennis elbow will never get better."
;)
LOL excellent!! Thanks for the good wishes and for making me smile :)
DAY 9 (http://www.talj.blogspot.com) of February is posted and as I don't have a cat I have my own little friday theme going!! CLICK HERE (http://talj.blogspot.com/2007/02/free-hugs-friday-my-usual-daily-post.html) to add your hug :)
Well my first ever visit to the "Out of focus" forum found you and your teddies!
Visited your blog - have to find out about doing this - and so sorry to hear that you have been so ill and just hope you make a speedy recovery. I though after five children leaving home the soft toys would be reduced, but we seem to be getting a great collection of Teddies around the house and it is lovely to have grandchildren to be weakened by more to add to their collections. Have to take some pitures of ours to cheer you and your collection up.

Hey! Thanks for you kind message and for checking out my blog! February is Bears month in my PAD, January was the kitchen and March....who knows! lol Look forward to seeing some of your bears soon! :)
Good idea as it is bloody cold in the garage with the window open to take my pikkies of birds - even with a coffee and my pipe to keep me warm. Thought I would do a quick one of this figure that spent about 20 years in the surgery with me . . . . bunged it on the scanner a couple of minutes ago and took into photoshop and added my greeting!
look after youself.

Hello, DRB. Firstly - great photos on your blog! Secondly, I've been there: ruptured knee tendons (yes, both. At the same time), the zimmer frame (embarrassing), the crutches (awkward), the full length leg casts (itchy), the muscle wastage (skinny), the slow recovery (frustrating), but hey! It ends! One day you'll look back and all you'll have are vague memories of some inconvenience and some great photos of your soft toy collection! Onwards! Keep us posted on your recovery.

Positive news that you seem to have found a good orthopeadic surgeon, and a sad if sensible decision not to take an anaesthetic risk - i spent the last 4 years working on some cases with a superb anaesthetist doing work under sedation on cases that in no way stand a general. We used to call the physios "Gestapo" at Guys when I was a student.
