Hi,

Why do none of the 24-70mm lenses (canon, nikon, sigma) have some sort of IS?

Why should all lenses have IS? What did people do before IS?

Drop the ISO and up the shutter speed instead - plus you can actually freeze motion this way which IS never can do

When I got into photography about a year ago and was looking at kit I thought I had to get VR as I thought it was what was needed now only 1 of my 5 lens has VR and that is my 70-200mm f2.8 the rest are fast f1.4-2.8 so no need for it.

short answer is they don't need it. I don't want the weight or expense of some sort of VR in a lens that doesn't need it

You mean on the 24-70 they have taken the VR out and replaced it with lead weights  mine weights a bloody ton.

There are rumours of a Canon 24-70 f/2.8 with IS in the pipeline. I do think it would be a useful feature to have on such a lens, for the same reasons as I would want it on other lenses.

The Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 featured IS and it was useful too.

Surely its a major benefit as you wouldnt have to raise the iso so much in lower light?

Lowering the shutter speed as you're suggesting it would allow, won't stop motion blur.
