I've just picked up a Sony A200 to use as a "throw away" camera for drunken events such as weddings, cricket matches, festivals etc.

It was an impulse buy off ebay and I hadn't really looked into it and I'm not sure I can live with it. Although I have a lot of SD cards which would be nice to be able to use, that isn't the problem (it came with a 4gb Sandisk Ex III) what I am worried about is accessibility to the pictures. All my computers (inc work) have SD slots and I have loads of what I would call normal mini usb connectors (as all other cameras seem to use, as does my blackberry) but now I will only ever be able to access my photos on the one computer at home where the (presumably) proprietary cable is (carrying a cable around defeats the idea of having the camera really).

So, has anyone found a decent (SDHC compatible) SD to CF card adapter?

Is this what you want.

ooh, looks like it, many thanks :)

Does anyone know if there are any major issues with using such a thing? Is it blasphemous to *******ise a CF slot, I guess they are still used for a reason?

wasnt there someone on here the other day saying their camera would not accept the converter? personally id always use the right size cards, its just another thing that can go wrong at the end of the day.

Just buy a CF card reader.

The addaptor costs the best part of £30, a cheap card readers about a £10-£15, and will read other types of card as well if you change in the future (or need to process other peoples images)

I'll be getting a CF card reader (in fact I think I've already got one).

My issue is that I'd like easily accessable pictures without having to cart extra kit around.

Oh well, should have done my research I guess

A card reader's hardly a huge amount of extra kit to lug round  and like Wayne very rightly pointed out, if you ever change again in the future you've still got a card reader that works.

I bought a universal card reader made by Advent about 5 years or so ago that can read all the main cards (CF, SD, Sony's Memory stick, etc) cost about £15 from PC World

Are the computer SD slots compatible with SDHC cards?

Here's a decent cheap card reader (though its price has doubled): http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hama-USB-2-0-Card-Reader/dp/B000IH1W20

I had one of those adapters (still got it somewhere) and the one I had severely effected the write speed of the card, just buy a reader.

Ok, I give in, I'll get card reader :D

Does anyone know the cable socket is proprietary or something like a generic 'micro USB'?

With the Hama reader I linked to, it's the same as on other (non-SDHC capable) readers and my cameras.

Sorry, I meant the cable socket on the camera.

With the other type (like I've got on my Nikon, Blackberry, Canon PAS etc etc) I've got loads lying about all over the place so there's always one to hand, it would just be a bit handy to have the same with the Sony camera.

I was gonna ask if the adapter effected the speed of the SD card.

Thanks :)

Your camera hasn't arrived yet? You could ask in the Sony thread (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=107446).

Yep, camera has arrived and it turns out to have what looks like a micro-B USB port rather than the more usual mini-B.

Oh well: The Micro plug design is rated for 10,000 connect-disconnect cycles which is significantly more than the Mini plug design.

You may find that older card readers cant read the 4gb cf card or sdhc cards, making a £3 bargain a bit useless. Check it can read over 2gb first!
