Morning All,

I am looking at hiring 2 Bowens Esprit 500 DX Flash units this weekend as I've been asked by a friend to take some shots of her kids.

I'm a bit concerned that the stated sync voltage for these units is 14V. The 5D has a claimed max voltage of 250V, so, I should be alright (shouldn't I?? ).

If I use a wireless trigger then does this remove the danger of frying my 5D?

The flash sync voltage of EOS cameras is only around 6 volts... but that's through the hot shoe. Have a read of this and see if it helps any...

clicky (http://photonotes.org/articles/eos-flash/index2.html)

Scroll down towards the bottom of the page for trigger voltage info.

Thanks CT.

According to the link, it's the hotshoe that is limited to 6V, so I would need to use something the the Wein Safe Sync to ensure the voltage was less than 6V or use some sort of wireless transmitter (which I what I think I will do).

Just waiting for Calumet to get back to me with a proce now.

This list says Bowens/Calumet lights (at least the older ones) are not suitable for direct connection.

So as you say above if you are going to use them do it wirelessly.

I think wireless is the way to go. Also no chance of me tripping over a sync lead if I use a wireless connection :D
