Hi All,

This is my first photo post on here, so please go easy! Just thought I'd share a few of my general aviation images taken through 2006. Is it obvious I have a bit of a thing for aircraft and sunrises/sunsets?!

I'm not sure if there are any guidelines as to the maximum number of images to post in a thread, so if I've posted too many just let me know.

Cheers,
Paul

VERY nice! :) (you are limited to 10 pictures per post by the way, but no limit to how many posts :) most people do put a 56k warning on the topic title though to warn people on dial up that there is a lot of images)

I really do like those shots! 3,4 and 8 have to be my favs, were these taken at one airport? or all over the place - I have tried taking shots before at East Midlands Airport and it wasnt as easy as I thought :(

You have captured all those shots very well Paul ... tack sharp where they need to be and with a different style of composition that makes them the more interesting ... airplane shots have a tendency to be boring as far as I am concerned ... but not these ones ... ;)

As for potb ... well it has to be 6 and 8 as they are real crackers imo ...

Great posting for your first m8 ... :D

They were actually taken at various airports. No. 1 is Leeds Bradford, 2 is Heathrow, 3 Berlin Tegel, 4, 5 and 6 at Manchester, 7 is Heathrow again and the last one is London Stansted.

East Mids certainly isn't the best airport for aviation photography as I've found out on a few trips down there before!

Only thing interesting I saw at East Midlands was this:

Hi there
These are all good but the "sunset" ones really grab me the most. Do you ever have airport security staff hasseling you?

Thanks everyone! :)

Do you ever have airport security staff hasseling you?

Not really surprisingly. I was at Heathrow a few weeks ago and we saw a couple of police cars go by, then one pulled up a hundred metres down the road, one just behind us and one in front. Three rather intimidating gun carrying officers approached us and very politely asked us where our car was parked and how long we'd be. They seemed satisfied with our answer so thanked us for our time and wished us a good day!

Most airport security and police are well used to seeing weird people like me pointing a big lens into the sky, so to a point it's accepted as a part of everyday airport life. In fact to some airports it's seen as a good thing, as having people spotting or taking photos around airports also means there are more eyes watching for anything suspicious.

Thanks again for your kind comments guys (and girls). :)

Paul

Some great stuff here.

As one aviation nut to another I hope you won't mind if I crit them 1 by 1...

1)Tricky shot well exposed IMHO...winglet shadow on fuselage a bit distracting (difficult to control I know)....personally would have liked either tight crop on specific part OR whole bird

2)Unusual angle would have made this shot a stunner I think...can you crop it at a wacky angle....Polarizer?

3)Great idea and excellent juxtaposition....something bothers me here though and I cannot say for sure...maybe I would have liked to see more pole under the crow's foot...maybe I would have liked to see more periphery around the subject matter...

4)IMHO again rather tricky exposure nailed down beautifully...would have liked slightly more loose crop and maybe taken a bit later in day to get a more dramatic sky...

5)Doesn't do it for me at all...good idea poorly executed...sorry:shrug:

6)Good idea, grad filter?...in two minds but nice shot as a silhouette

7)a nice snap....

8)Absolutly marvelous, well done is an understatement!!
What I love here is that you (intentionally?) do not use the thirds and this to me makes it so much more pleasing to view:thumbs:
