Hi All,

I spent a couple of hours on Monday at my home airport of LBA. The sun was out, the light was wonderful, but unfortunately it was also bitterly cold! Here are a few shots from the day, all taken with a Canon 30D and Sigma 50-500DG.

Well... Perhaps I have spent the odd hour besides the odd runway. :D

Thanks for your kind comments, all. Much appreciated!

It's basically Michael O'Leary, the big bad boss of Ryanair, trying to scare the competition. Many of Ryanair's aircraft are painted with slogans that are generally not too complimentary to other airlines. 'Bye Bye Latehansa' is commonly seen as well. Has to be said, I've done a good few flights with both Ryanair and Lufthansa... I know who I'd rather fly with!

thanks for the explanation

although ryanair flights are a bargain, they seem to try to con you out of more money each time.. i flew from valencia last week and because i didnt have baggage i was forced to pay for priority boarding even when there was no priority boarding.. some poor cow had an overweight suitcase too and it cost her 95 quid!!

did anyone get any shots of planes taking off / landing last thursday in all the wind? I was watching the planes landing at stansted whilst waiting to board one. It was hairy indeed. We watched our plane come into land and it got a right wobble on, nearly got the wheels on the ground when the pilot changed his mind and took off again to Gatwick instead. Luckily they cancelled a lot of other flights so they had plenty of spare planes for us.
i took a few photos but it was only a short range lens and the photos are crap

Ryanair will indeed try sting you in any way they can, and excess baggage is certainly one of them! I've only ever flown with Ryanair on occasions when I've only had cabin baggage (my camera) so I manage to escape all that.

Still, I've (sadly) done something in the region of 40 flights with them over the last couple of years, and they certainly have their place. No air miles for me on those flights though!

As for hairy landings my home airport is Leeds Bradford, the highest commercial airport in the UK. I've had a few, shall we say, interesting landings there over the last few years. I'm flying out of there tomorrow morning to Amsterdam then on to Zurich... Should be interesting in the current changeable weather conditions!

Very nice shots Paul.

Now if you were there yesterday (Wednesday) you could have got the shot that would have raised our eyebrows.

One of BMI's aircraft burst ALL of its tyres on landing and closed the airport for most of the afternoon.

As far as I'm aware it was all four tyres of the main landing gear only, not the nose wheel. The aircraft was still stuck at LBA yesterday when I flew out to Zurich (via Amsterdam). There were two bmi Airbus aircraft on the ground at the same time. Very rare!

Ajdesq... I have to agree, flying Squeezyjet is generally much more fun than flying Ryanair. I prefer KLM, though. :D

Thanks again, everyone!
