Is this focal length too long for sports such as football?

No, its fine, i use a D3 with a 300mm lens and 1.4x extender which is effectivly 420mm and i often hanker for a little extra reach, your setup would be 450mm, perfect.

Hi Gary thanks for the info, im well happy now i will finally have the correct focal length. I noticed you did the Leeds game last night....Nice shots...Did you get a shot of shev walkers bone sticking out his leg lol....Ouch
Had to ask being a rhinos fan lol.
Had a mad day myself photographing Barnet v Bradford City....Dam long journey.

Hi Kev, didnt even notice there was an injury stoppage until it was too late, i was busy downloading and editing the first 10 mins of photos to notice anything.

Im at Headingley again this afternoon for the Union, ill pop my 300 onto my D300 for 10 minutes or so to show what you can expect from 450mm reach at Headingley

That is a good set of images..I sort of see what sort of images im now going to be getting...They are very sharp and show emotion....Really nice shots.....I bet your pleased with the photos....
