View Full Version : Suggestions for the "Photo Sharing" Area...
Just a suggestion for the "Photo Sharing" area of the forum, but why not break it down into different categories? i.e.- Landscapes, Portraits, Abstracts/Stills, Macro, Nature & Wildlife, etc.
In my opinion, I think it would be nice for members to be able to look at specific areas of interest as opposed to searching everyone's galleries in order to see photo's on a specific subject/topic.
Anyway, as I said, just a suggestion.

I agree. It would make it alot easier to navigate around the site. Most of us don't have alot of time to search for something in particular.
Regards, Jewel. :D
I think I'd have to disagree here. While I may not be interested in every type of photographic expression, I feel that seeing these can only expand my knowledge and horizons.
I can't speak for anyone but myself here, but if the member's gallery was subdivided into various formats (as it is on other forums), I'd have a tendancy to get lazy and only look at what interests me at that particular moment. By keeping the galleries open to anything, then I am almost forced to look at everything. Actually "forced" may not be the right word, because I am glad that I'm given the opportunity to have someone's photography generate an interest in me that wasn't there before.
Besides, the more I am exposed to photography the better I will become at it (in theory :D).
Just my 2 cents though. :)
How about both? Is it possible to have members galleries, which people upload to, but then a few categories that the pictures can also be under. eg. tick a category when uploading, and they are automatically beamed into that category as well?

At this time i dont think we would want to dilute the forums down by having too many, if we had 2000+ members and 30 or more online at anyone time it would be great, but with any new site, its best for us to have forums that are busy!
The Gallery space that is provided, hmmm i will look at possible mods to that to allow pictures to be 'categorized' though i notice some people do have them compartmentalised already...
Thanks for the suggestions, just cos they not taken up now doesnt mean that they wont be in the future!
It would help if the keyword section was filled in for each image by the album owners.
You could then use the search facility on the gallery front page to find spacific images.
For an example if you had a boy riding a bicycle in a red coat, you could enter:
Boy Bicycle Red etc...
Leaving a space or comma between each word.

Would be possible to have a series of tick boxes at the time of up-loading rather than key words. This I feel help keep some consistancy.
For example B&W, Landscape, People etc.
Members could then search on the given area of interest.
Just a thought
I disagree. I think it's fine as it is.
I would tend to leave it as it is.
I in the past have tended to look at only areas that currently interest me, but I have been prompted to go out and try something new when browsing peoples' work on here...one example was taking shots in the house. Others have been inspired to go out and take candid shots and guess what I'm doing this weekend? :p Another example is Zoo shots....another project now on my list.
The members galleries are easy to comparmentalise and I've done just that on my new gallery here.
Using the keywords feature is a good idea and I'll be sorting mine out this weekend! I've also compiled my 'best' shots from the last 3 cameras I've owned and listed the camera name in the titles...just another suggestion.
If and when the forum gets massive, it might be an idea though when it reaches a point where even the mods can't read every single post like somewhere else I visit. (There, you only read posts by people who have loads of red 'L's in their signature, so you'll be OK Marcel
Guys, lets get something straight from the start, this admin and the rest of the staff here are all lazy and do as little as possible, what some are proposing with the members galleries would require a lot of our intervention to keep things in order. All the staff here give their skill, knowledge and not inconsiderable amount of time for free, it would be wholly unfair of me to ask of them in that way.
The galleries thing is definitely not going to happen unless all of the staff think it is a good idea without any hesitation and are willing to back it 100% (this I would doubt will ever happen).
The photo critique forums may get split into subsections at some time in the future but only when the membership here is far bigger, at the moment each subsection would not be busy enough to keep them from stagnating. Also please remember that the whole point of these forums is to get people excited about photography and offer free help, advice and guidance with the hope of seeing everyone improve. By effectively restricting what people may see here by dividing sections will also narrow their exposure to new styles and subjects of photography. As Bachs has said, the current discussions have inspired him to attempt some new styles and subjects that he would have previously not tried. Also if you don’t want to view a certain thing, 95% of the time the thread title gives away the subject and there is nothing forcing you to click ;)
