View Full Version : Opinions?
Right everyone i am new to this lark so just want some advice on some of my pictures. I took the ones of the Mini when i had just got the camera. They look ok to me, but i want the opinions of the people in the know. I am a total beginner to this!

Had a bit of a play with this one

I took these ones when i was at Spa in October last year with my Sigma 300mm lense. I think these could be improved a lot. Any pointers?

The Mini shots are fine, but you find they have more impact if you get down lower.
The track ones could do with some PP work to really make them sparkle!
You have some wheel blur in some of them which gives some occasion of speed. However, you could try doing some panning (esp when they are side on) to really get a sense of speed.
Hope this helps. :)
P.S when you post, if you leave a line or two between images it helps a lot for the person viewing them. :)

I'm with Joe in this - I'm not a motorsport enthusiast, but to me the shots look a little static.
I like the mini shots, but definately get lower and maybe a little closer
Cheers guys.... i think i have one of the Mini lower down somewhere i'll have to root it out.
When you say have a plan with PP what do you mean?
Play with the brightness, contrast and saturation mostly. Will make them look much bette.r Have a play and see. The adjustments dont have to be huge.
Edit: some USM might help too.

Which imaging software to you use? - PP just means post production (ignore this if its egg sucking time).
IVe got Photoshop 6 so i'll have a bash later
they look very static, especially the mini ones (i'll get my coat)
most of the spa ones look out of focus. what settings were you using?
Got to say that IMHO PP of the spa photos is a bad idea. Best to learn from them and take a better photo next time. Let us know your camera and your settings and i'll try and give some more 'constructive' criticism
The mini ones would also be better with a nicer backdrop. Garage doors and downpipes detract. A nice open scene would make the car stand out.
Regards the motorsports, I think they are out of focus because by the time you have focussed and taken the shot, the cars have moved quite a bit.
Try using AI Servo which tracks focus. You keep your finger on the shutter and the camera tracks the subject moving to keep it in focus all the time.
You'll get more keepers like this. Shoot with the aperture wide open and use ISO to get the shutter speeds you need if you have to.
Cheers
