You do need a little patience for people to respond ;)

You'll have to forgive her Ian, she starts nights tonight and she's hungry.

I think I might sort her out a KFC.

As for where - it can only be in Bradford.

sue
28-01-2007, 14:18
Ok well, the nothern end of england then :)
Scotland might just be a little far for me to go for one night out for curry, but considering going to scotland for a few days, later in the year.

What's that one just up the hill from Foster Square station. Ace curries there.

Also the International (?) and the Kashmiri place up behind the Photography Museum. I liked those too.

You set aside a few days just to consider!

:D

If coming north (proper north) you must have a curry at the Rajah in Inverness. Agree Steep?

Jimmy_Lemon
30-01-2007, 21:17
There is a place that does a naan bread challenge on a road up behind the film museum (kind of) near a Weatherspoons and The Love Apple - no idea what the challenge is mind....I am guessing to eat the whole thing!

Sorry Matt and Sue

Bit too far south for the north of england for me :)

but have fun

30-01-2007, 21:26
mmmm Curry.
Cant denounce Bradford as being the curry pit of the UK, but there are some very very good venues down here.

Naans the size of duvets, stuffed with almonds and rasins.... mmmm. Shame you only get one per table.

Druid
30-01-2007, 21:32
Hot though. I ordered a keema balti the first time I was in that place just up from Foster Square station thinking it'd be moderately hot, and I couldn't speak for about 10 minutes afterwards. I don't know what their Jalfrezis are like 'cos I was never brave enough to find out.

And as for the 'border kebabs' at that place behind the photography museum, "what do you reckon those little lumps are?" - tries to reply "I think they're clumps of chilli seeds" but fails due to inability to breathe.

Ah just remembered the name of the one near Foster Square. Naawab.

Used to like the Shabab in Harrogate  . I think theres one in Leeds but not sure about Bradford. Were very good a few years ago, but not sure now.
Recently tried Akbars, was very good but overrated I think - and very very busy. I'm afraid I don't know any others on that side of Yorkshire though :)

02-02-2007, 11:12
So what would be a good date for people?

Sounds like it might be at the Nawaab in Bradford, foster square.

Jimmy_Lemon
02-02-2007, 11:50
Looks like a good place to me. I am good whenever - my only request is that is isnt too late in the evening as my stomach really doesnt like curry late at night as I found to my cost :| Eating before/around 7:30ish would suit me better.

Its just round the back of your work Renee :)

You could always go shopping in Forster Square before you come up.

6:30 definately sounds good to me though.

So do we have any dates set up yet??

sue
08-02-2007, 08:11
no dates set as yet, guess we should wait till this threat of snow is over, anybody any requests for dates?

mho
12-02-2007, 22:57

Waiting for some people to throw some dates into the mix I think

h.r.ford
15-02-2007, 12:49
Do we want to do it in Feb or wait till March? I'm leaving the country for good in June/July so I'd really like to get together before then!

sue
15-02-2007, 21:01
how about march as feb is fast passing.
any dates that are good for certain dates in march and any that arent good?

Matt Charlton
16-02-2007, 07:34
Well the weekend around march 2/3/4 is out as we're busy as are most of the others on the forum ;)

Jimmy_Lemon
16-02-2007, 10:55
bugger - seems I have missed a bit on here. I am pretty much free whenever (sad isnt it!) March sounds good as I am just getting a cold, and want to taste the curry, not just go through the montions! (hmm think I could re-phrase that)

h.r.ford
18-02-2007, 20:48
How about the third week in March since we will have scene eachother in the beginning. Does that sound ok?

Jimmy_Lemon
18-02-2007, 21:03

Matt Charlton
19-02-2007, 08:44
Friday 16th or Saturday 17th then?

h.r.ford
19-02-2007, 18:49
Whichever. I'd prefer a friday so I can go straight from work but it really doesn't matter as it will be just me.

sue
19-02-2007, 19:02
Will look tonight and see what I am working on the 16th then :)

Jimmy_Lemon
19-02-2007, 19:29
I might try and bring my big sis with me, she lives in Bradford anyway and is a keen photographer, but never gets time to do much photography. Chatting to you lot might get her to sign up here and get her to come along to meets etc :) Either that or Matt's attempts to find the Ice Cream Factory in the Indian might scare her slightly :|

Matt Charlton
19-02-2007, 21:33
Don't be silly Tom, theres no ice cream factory at the curry house..........there is however a McDonalds just down the road and they do McFlurries and they are open till midnight.

So if all else fails......... ;)

sue
20-02-2007, 17:17
Hmmmm I am working on the 16th the only friday I seem to have off in March is 30th, now I could try and swap and go for the 16th, or you could go for the curry with matt and the rest of you. And I will try and come along next time.

Jimmy_Lemon
20-02-2007, 17:19
aw no, wont be the same without you Sue!

sue
20-02-2007, 17:28

Matt Charlton
20-02-2007, 17:29
i'm not going on my own with these wierdos :p

sue
20-02-2007, 17:51
It would mean you get to go out for two currys and they are wierdos, sure you will survive.

I can do Saturday as long as everyone else can it is just more of a drive that is all. Definitely don't want to be the only girl!

sue
20-02-2007, 18:45
well i think i can do the 17th, i will have to write off duty down tonight and confirm

sue
22-02-2007, 17:47
OK so how is saturday 17th March??? who would come on that date as I think this is what has been picked. Time I guess around 7pm???

Any comments about date and time welcomed.

Jimmy_Lemon
22-02-2007, 17:51
Date sounds good...time sounds good :) earlier would also be good...any later wouldnt be great for me, but not the end of the earth :D

sue
22-02-2007, 17:53
so you are happy with the date, i guess a little earlier might be nice, didnt want to suggest too early with it been a saturday dont want to stop people doing stuff during the day and rushing about, but earlier would be ok with me

minimeeze
22-02-2007, 19:40
Definitely don't want to be the only girl!

I'm usually the only girl :help: but I'm well looked after :)

What are you lot like anyway? A 3 page long thread and you still haven't organised a curry night  We, however, are on our second

Matt Charlton
23-02-2007, 08:21
And how many Southern meets have you lot managed to sort out? :p

we're on our 5th or 6th in a week (since July) with the Liverpool one :p

Besides, with so much choice for where to go for a curry up here, it takes us longer to decide ;)

minimeeze
23-02-2007, 08:30

Hmmmm... let me think - Dorset, London x2, curry night x 2, Marwell Zoo, Bristol (ok, so it was cancelled due to weather but it still counts :p), Santa Pod and several more that I didn't manage to get to

Matt Charlton

24-02-2007, 19:58
I'd say 6.30 the 17th is great but since that is St Pats will it be really busy... Not sure *** it is a big deal in America but I'm guessing not such a big deal in this country.

sue
24-02-2007, 20:15
We can book so shouldnt be too much of a problem so if I book the table for 6:30 just need to know who would be coming.

sue
05-03-2007, 15:59
Ok then, less than two weeks away now, I plan on booking the table later this week what with it been mothering sunday the day after thought it may be slightly busy, so the date is 17th March time 6:30pm, who is coming?

sue
06-03-2007, 16:50
Yeah it is on manor row, there is some parking next door linked with the registry office i dont know if it is open on an evening, but i will have a drive around there tomorrow and find out

That would be good Matt you can show me the sights (or sites) of Bradford

Matt Charlton
06-03-2007, 17:30
I'll have to figure out where the sights are

Where can we go, Sue?

sue
06-03-2007, 17:33
There is the Industrial Museum, Lister Park, Media Museum, Ogden water.

All free as well :)

Matt Charlton
06-03-2007, 17:37
Oh yes - who could forget the Media Museum (aka the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television)?

We'd find that sort of thing interesting :)

Suppose there's shibden park in halifax too if its a nice day. Industrial museum is nice too.

Shipley Glen?, Sailtaire? Shipley?

Are we dead set on the Nawaab? Would the Aagrah be a better choice? either sit down or buffet?

Jimmy_Lemon
06-03-2007, 17:39
I would be up for a mini meet if this is open to everyone :) Not been to the media museum for ages, and have been meening to take my camera to Lister park for AGES

P.S - I am up for any Indian place. Buffets arent my favourite as the vege stuff tends to be limiting and I am not too keen on very spicy stuff. But I am happy whatever :)

Matt Charlton
06-03-2007, 17:42
Just had a chat with Sue (in real life, here in the living room! oh my god! ;) )

The Aagrah in Shipley do an all you can/want eat buffet and the menu is rotated quite often. Its about £14 per head and includes anything that they have out. They also do a normal menu if you want to sit downstairs but that will be more expensive.

We've done both upstairs and downstairs, I've never done Nawaab so not sure on how it compares and what the curries are like in there.

The buffet at the Aagrah is great if there are things out that you like but can be a little limiting if you don't like what they have on (generally 3 starters + 3 veg starters + rice of some kind + 6 or so curry dishes with lamb/chicken/keema or veg).

I'm easy either way but would rather take you to a place I knew was good.

Parking is much better at the aagrah too.

http://www.aagrah.com/restaurants/shipley/shipley.asp

Matt Charlton
06-03-2007, 17:43
I generally prefer the downstairs sit downy thing as I can have whatever I fancy at the time (mmmmmmm chicken makhani), plus I can get chips and rice :D

Matt Charlton
06-03-2007, 17:46
Curse you all, now I have to go out for a curry, NOW, because sue isnt going to make me any tea.

mmmm curry

sue
06-03-2007, 17:46
I dont mind where we go for curry, I would be up for a day out with the camera as well first, I can say manningham park is reasonably good, been quite a few times.

So I think the only thing certain at the moment is that it is all happening on the 17th March.

Matt Charlton
06-03-2007, 17:48
I seem to remember the last time I was in Lister/Manningham park that someone was making me stand in funny poses in a suit and smile lots. Two hours in front of the camera was not fun. It'll be nice to spend some time on the other side of the camera for a bit.

17th of June I think it was, something else happened that day that led to the suit and the photo taking......what was it?

Oh well, if it was anything important I've got a few months to figure it out and buy the relevant card :p

Jimmy_Lemon
06-03-2007, 18:50
Across the main road from Lister Park is "Inndian" which I have been to before and is VERY nice, just to throw more into the pot :p (its an old pub and I think thats the reason for the two n's).

sue
06-03-2007, 19:08
Hmmmm will someone please decide on a place to eat cos we are going to have to book the end of this week. So you all have another couple of days to decide.

h.r.ford
07-03-2007, 05:59
The Inndian has also won some awards... I really don't care but I will say I'd rather not do a buffet as I tend to overeat and I'm pretty choosy on what curries I like. We also really need to make a decision today because we need reservations as it is probably going to be a busy night. Ok mothering over.

sue
07-03-2007, 08:14
Ok then, we can try the inndian then that is fine by me, always willing to try somewhere new, and if other say it is night then thats where we can go.

h.r.ford
07-03-2007, 11:33
Umm I'm an idiot... I for some reason this morning (let's call it dementia from working out) was thinking it was this weekend but it isn't till next weekend.. DUH! I haven't been to any of these places so I'm relying on ya'll but I just don't want a buffet.

Jimmy_Lemon
07-03-2007, 12:22

Not a proper curry house in the great Bradford tradition looking at those photos.

I always used to enjoy taking friends to some of the curry houses around the ice rink area and seeing their faces when they realised they wouldn't be getting any cutlery to eat their meal with  And that you'd pay more for your curry if you opted to go in the room that had a carpet on the floor instead of just lino

I wouldn't tell them they had to eat with their hands until they'd ordered a dish with extra sauce rather than a dry curry. Cruel of me really.

Matt what can I say I'm touched that you would go through all that hard work just to make sure we were happy on the night ;) The Inn-dian is great as I pass by it every day so I know right where it is. And if it is empty that meanswe won't disturb all teh other patrons when we get roudy and start dancing on tables!

Matt Charlton
08-03-2007, 08:24
After eating last night I still don't think I could dance on a table, I'm still full.

We over-ordered and overate something chronic. You need one rice between three of you, maybe even one curry between two.

Full tummy :D

I'm liking the sound of this idea one day soon :) Maybe we should bring a southern curry take away with us to do a like for like comparison. All in the name of scientific research of course

You'd get stopped at border control, only allowed proper curries up here my friend ;)

How many times do i have to tell you???? Border control is just to stop you buggers coming south and stealing the curry that you covet so much.

You can shout til you're blue in the face that 'you can't get a decent curry in the south' or 'your curries are soft' - but as the great bard once said; "methinks the lady doth protest too much"

Good actor, great film, clever line.

Also a good analogy as he was wrong when he said it too :)

I don't like Mumtaz, too spicy and they don't too chapatis.

Akbars is overrated - its nice but its too busy and they rush you out of the door.

Welcome to the forum by the way, if you'd like to join us at the Inn-Dian next week you're more than welcome :)
