I posted a thread about our new kitten a good few weeks ago but we were not able to collect her as she developed cat flu :(

The vet has managed to cure her now so we get to collect her tomorrow.

Lovely kitten but they grow so quickly. We took in a stray a couple of years ago that was pregnant and then gave us 2 more litters before she had a trip to the vets. Having kittens and a christmas tree is lots of fun, then watching them climb onto my german shepherd to have a nap.

She's my kind of pet too. I've always had cats, and prefer them to dogs. They're not as smelly or messy - female cats anyway.

She sure is a cutey-pie. We first saw her when she was four weeks old and were told that she'd be ready for re-homing when she reached eight weeks old. We were also told that we would be unlikely to get her because about twenty people were after her! We kept pestering them nonetheless, but at eight weeks old, the litter came down with cat flu and they've been ill ever since. We didn't ring for a while. Then today I nagged Cowasaki to ring them, and it turned out that the vet had just released them for re-homing!!! He drove up there straight away to reserve her. Two of the litter had already gone by the time he got there, and the fourth one was snapped up after we reserved Pearl. We had a home visit tonight, and should be able to pick her up tomorrow, if Mr C can get away from work early enough. Just hope our other cat, Moo likes her. She probably won't at first.

Just found out we're not allowed to pick her up tonight! :'( You're supposed to visit your kitten three times before being allowed to take her apparently. We've been at least twice but they're only counting two visits, so we've got to play ball and go and visit, then go away again, then go and pick her up. We'll try to visit tonight if Cowasaki gets away from work in time, then attempt to pick her up either Saturday or Monday. Alternatively, they said that we can go and visit on Monday morning, then go back later on Monday and pick her up!!! It's beyond me. Apparently it's to stop people reserving an animal and picking it up on a whim, but I think having rung about her almost everyday for the past seven weeks, it's hardly a whim. Oh well. Patience dear girl, patience.

Mrs Cowasaki - I know how you feel - our local rescue has that 3 visit rule about dogs[although the way they run that, it's sensible] I think it used to be 2/3 for cats, too, but we only did one when we got out last year[but we're volunteers and had obv met her[and her kitten] before, to have fell in love]

I know it's frustrating :( - hopefully she'll be home with you very soon!!

It's Moo that is unsure. We brought Pearl home and placed her next to Moo, she recoiled and then hissed and cried. It took her hours to recover and that was with Pearl hidden away in another room. I don't think she likes another cat in the house!

In the picture Pearl is watching whilst I was dragging her collar round in front of her so the bell rattled. I think she was deciding when to pounce.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2061/2082897649_7884c56bcc_m.jpg

she caused ructions when she arrived with other female.. lots of hissing and spitting which is still going on 2 years later.. she's great mates with my tom though :)

they'll get used to each other in their own time.. might not become the best of pals but will tolerate each other... sort of ;)

Beautiful kitten guys, give her time and she'll settle in!

We picked up our two 10wk old kittens last weekend from Cats Protection, they didn't have a visit rule as far as I know but they did have a home-visit requirement which was fine, just a shame it was a 200mile round trip for the lady  Still, we donated generously :D

So here's a couple of Bruno (ginger) and Pumpkin. Bruno was weighed this morning, he's 2.2kg  he's going to be one BIG cat!

She hasn't really stopped purring since we brought her home - apart from when Moo is hissing at her - then she quickly resumes purring after Moo's gone. She's wonderful. I just hope Moo will grow to like her with time. We were hoping she'd mother her, but we were too optimistic apparently.

Gawd she is a bit of a cutie, isn't she!!!

Can I make a suggestion - can be totally ignored. I'd not let Moo and Pearl meet for a few days. Let them get eachother's smells first. Swap bedding around and just let Moo settle - she KNOWS the kitten is about, and will do because of smell and of course seeing her already...But take things slowly.

The day after we got our 2 new cats last year, we decided to let them sniff noses through a gap in a door to the room the new cats were staying in....Except the older of the 2 new cats hissed and swiped at one of your existing cats.....And just over a year later she's only just coming in the house properly again - has been living in the garage[coming in house to eat...Cat flap is in garage] if we'd taken things slower they'd have got on better - cos the one the cat doesn't like is the one that hissed at her.
With Females-females you gotta get things slow, females are moody cows around one another - and we're stupid and have 4females, and not one male to balance it around.

You can ignore this whole ramble I've done, and equally tell me to shove off :p, but I just thought I'd mention it. :coat:

yikes shorty, you're brave!.. 2 females is enough for me.. poor tom in the middle gets it from all sides when one of them is hissing at the other.. sitting target ;)

No, that's great, thanks for the advice Shorty! I've been speaking to my sister who has cats, and she reckons we shouldn't be shutting Pearl away. She said to leave the doors open so they both have the run of the house. But then she did point out that hers are all house cats, so when she's introduced a new one, they've had no choice but to get used to each other. Moo doesn't use a litter tray so has to go out from time to time. So we were worried that she would go out and not come back in. However, she has been coming in again reluctantly. But I think you're right in keeping them apart for a few days. They met again today when Pearl was on our bed. Moo came in and jumped on the bed, not knowing she was there, then hissed as soon as she saw her, and ran away. As you say, Moo knows she's here, so if we leave it for a few days to get Moo's confidence back, it might be better.

Any and all advice gratefully received thanks.

Hope she's better soon, poor little mite

Ours went to the vet today, we're all crossing our fingers our youngest cat doesn't have a heart issue - luckily their jabs were overdue and are on kitten ones - so back in 3 weeks anyway, to check.

She's a gorgeous, such a face!

This was my desktop. Pearl was sitting on the basket looking at me. She pounced then walked over all timidly keeping an eye on this giant Moo. It makes a change as Moo is normally hissing at her!

She is being particularly Tigger like tonight.

The wonderful thing about tiggers
Is tiggers are wonderful things!
Their tops are made out of rubber
Their bottoms are made out of springs!
They're bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy
Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun!
But the most wonderful thing about tiggers is
I'm the only one
Tiggers are cuddly fellas
Tiggers are awfully sweet
Ev'ryone el-us is jealous
That's why I repeat... and repeat

The wonderful thing about tiggers
Is tiggers are marvelous claps!
They're loaded with vim and vigor
They love to leap in your laps!
They're jumpy, bumpy, clumpy, thumpy
Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun!
But the most wonderful thing about tiggers is
I'm the only one
I-I-I'm , the only... oof!
Ouch!

Well done Moo!

 at the Tigger

The saying "Scaredy cat" is pointed straight at Mrs Moo ! She regularly jumps at her own shadow and leaves the house crying after seeing Pearl in another room. She is only just getting used to the idea of another cat but is still scared of her !

arrr I really like Westies  But I doubt the cats would

My first Westie used to love cats, one would even come and meet us in the morning and come for a walk with us !!!!.

The second one hated them.

They both hated squirrels, the younger one even caught one in out garden once, I did'nt tell the OH for years.

How have the others reacted to the new addition?

We've actually had Sidney for a month now and Him and Pearl are bestest friends curling up together but Moo does not like ANY cats. She even hisses at her own reflection! Sidney and Pearl keep trying to make friends which makes Moo even worse :( Oh well I doubt they will all be friends and I doubt I will ever get a picture of all three together unless I use photoshop or Diazepam.

Mr Sidney Biddlesworth (Sidney or Biddles for short) came to us one day about a month ago. He was scratching at the back door and yowling to come in. After a couple of days of this, Chlowasaki and I were heart broken and sneakily gave him some food and a cuddle. This continued for about a week and we also started bringing into the warm for a cuddle and a feed. After a few days I noticed that he had a bad case of ear mites. He had no collar and was clearly in need of some love and care. I'd seen him and Moo have an eskimo kiss in the garden, and so decided to take Sidney to the vets to get treatment for his ear mites so that our other cats didn't get them. Whilst at the vets, he was checked for a microchip and he didn't have one. The lost and found register was also checked and he wasn't reported missing. We mentioned that we were thinking of sending him out with a collar and capsule containing a note, asking if he belonged to anyone. However, he had stopped wondering off at night, and was staying at our house pretty much permanently, and even when he did go out, he would not venture out of the garden. So the vet said if it was up to him, he'd consider Sidney as our cat - he said he was clearly unloved before he came to us, and it was clear we loved him. So we kept him. We had to have him neutered a couple of weeks ago - for which he's forgiven us now.

He's a wonderfully natured kitten (only seven months old even though he's quite a big fellow). He's extremely laid back and will let you do anything to him, including having to give him a week long course of antibiotics by tablet twice a day, and he'll obediently go into his carrier to be taken to the vets.

He has been a marvelous addition to our family of cats. It took just a few days for Sidney and Pearl to become the very best of friends, and now they are inseparable! However, Moo still hates them both, but as the weather has got colder, Moo is in the house more and more and so is having to put up with them - so maybe over the winter, she'll come round to the idea of having two companions, especially when their kitten behaviour subsides.

Shorty
17-12-2009, 11:34
Oh not jealous AT ALL. no not me.

How I wish we could have a boy to balance things out. Give Moo time, it'll take a few months but I reckon she'll ease up, esp with a male around.
The cold winter IS helping for us though, so hopefully it does for you too, Tia is almost in all day long[well she had been...not today though].

We were gonna get a 5th cat, and finally a male. But we really didn't wanna drive our 'princess' away - fingers crossed his fosterer looks like she's smitten

Probably. Sidney is just having a snooze at the moment so that he has enough energy for his main sleep.
