do you want 300mm, do you want IS and do you want f2.8 those choices make the lens choice for you really :D
might be worth throwing the 70-200 f4L into the mix aswell
I shoot weddings and portraits
Not sure if im breaking the rules but if i am please remove my reply.
I have a Canon 70-300 ive posted it in the classifieds if you decide on a Canon. thanks.
I wouldn't consider the 70-300 a portrait/wedding lens imo, I have had both and still have the mk1 siggy 2.8, I ain't generally a sigma fan but it's a decent lens for the price

I think it would have to be the 70-200 f2.8 for weddings

70-200 2.8 much nicer portrait lens, 2.8 gives speed in low light and a nice shallow DoF
I already have the 70-300 IS, not sure where my sig has gone but it would have been on there ;)
Im wondering if its worth an upgrade to the sigma

Often said the siggie softens towards the long end and numerous reports of front-focus issues. If you don't need the 2.8 then the F4L must surely be the lens to get, if you do then try a Sigma or consider a 2nd hand F2.8L perhaps?
Its a touch choice to make, I like the IS that the Canon 70-300 has and its useful but its not very fast at 300mm or even 200mm
Ideally yes, I would love the canon 70-200 2.8 IS but then its out of my price range right now.
I thought that if I buy a 2nd hand sigma, sell my almost brand new canon 70-300 and then if I choose to sell the sigma later it wont loose much money on it.
Is there a 70-200 F4 IS? that might be an option but its probably the same money as the Canon 70-200 f2.8 without IS which would be a better option.
Ugh. I only really want to spend £400..

Yep there is a canon 70-200mm f4 non IS and IS version, also a canon 70-200mm f2.8 non IS version, all considerably cheaper than f2.8 IS version.
If you only want to spend £400, 70-200mm f4 or possible a 2nd hand sigma 70-200mm f2.8, but not IS for £400's.
Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 going at Mifsuds and Ffordes 2nd hand for around £450-550.

Yep - roughly F4L, £500, F4L IS or F2.8L, £850, F2.8L IS, £1100, last time I checked anyway.
Make do with what ya got for now... do a few more weddings/paid jobs save a little while then sell the lens and buy the 70-200 2.8L IS canon, for weddings/portraits it really is a god send and you won't regret it.

Have to agree here.I have the 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS and it really is worth the extra few bob when you see the images...:)
