View Full Version : Problems with unread posts
Don't think this can just be me as it does it on my home PC and work PC (could be my user ID though).
Anyway, if I click on read next unread item arrow next to a thread, the first time it will work fine and take me to the next unread item. If I then do the same on the next thread I get the message that there are no unread items in that thread and the same for each of the threads which are showing as having new items.
If I then change forum, all the previously unread items are marked as read making it tricky to follow anything
Is it just me? Any ideas if it is? Sorry if the above doesn't make a lot of sense :)
not really sure TBH, the only thing i can suggest is looking at your cookie settings?
I'll take it from that that you don't have the same problems
Using IE6 on both machines. Default settings for security and cookies. Funny that it should happen for me on different machines. Might try my laptop in a bit and see what happens there.
All ideas appreciated. I'm getting RSI scrolling through all these threads
i dont use it really, the software should go to the newest post automatically?
Seems to be sorted. Appears it was the way I had the forum bookmarked
Working for the moment :D
I've noticed this too. It seems like the threads go from new to read very quickly. And I'm not positive, but I think it happens at work and at home. I thought maybe it was just me.
Seems I spoke too early. Still happening. And now there are two of us
For the moment I'll try to avoid using the view new post arrow.
Just tried using Firefox now. Same problem. All unread posts marked read.
i have no suggestions im afraid, i dont use the arrow, i use the scroller on the mouse, sorry!
I am sorry guys I can’t offer any suggestions either. The way I use the forums is to read a post, reply and then use the forum select button on the top to get my browser to then go the next orange post, that way I get to check every new post since the last time I logged in. Not ideal but it is one way round the issue.
I wouldn't call it an issue, Steve. At least not for me.
Until dlh said something, I thought it was just me, and that it was just a curiosity. Nothing else. :)
Its more of a bug really but I doubt that its anything we can correct as the board is running on virtually standard software, we have implemented a couple of hacks but have deliberately kept them to a minimum with a view to not creating problems, opening security holes and trying to keep the forums as fast as possible. Generally we are happy but unfortunately this one issue you may have to live with :(
Cheers, thanks for sticking with it.
I am not saying that it can't be sorted with time just that we are not able at the moment. A future software update might cure it hopefully :)
I will adapt :)
I will too. As I said it's nothing more than a minor curiosity for me :)
I think everyone should scrap internet explorer (too many pop-ups and too slow), everyone get yourselves onto a mozilla browser like Firefox, it has worked flawlessly for me for years!

I wouldn't go as far to say it has worked flawlessly in my case, but the last two versions have been very good.
IE has been pushed to the side now, hopefully to never return. :)
popup blocker works well on IE
Strange. This had been working for the last week, but this morning it's stopped again. Did someone change something and then change it back? :)
not us Guv! we havent made any changes to the forums that i am aware of!

Err well sort of, I have been editing and changing some stuff behind the scenes but nothing at all that would alter the way the board works for you. I have only altered hyperlinks and some of the Meta tags etc, nothing at all to do with the day to day operations.
Well it's working again :D I'll put it down to the pixies that took down half my network over the weekend!
Well thats good news at least :D I'll keep my fingers crossed that it doesn't go belly up again [smilie=w:
