View Full Version : Chester Zoo - Saturday 3rd March

Yes I know I haven't finished with going tomorrow yet but I thought I'd post this up and get a little bit of interest going.
Its the day before the Liverpool meet, Sue and I are using it as a stop over between Hull and Liverpool, so we'll be staying in a B&B Saturday night either near Chester or not too far from Liverpool itself.
Basically you know the drill by now, its a zoo, theres lots of animals and its a good day out. I've run out of those half price ticket things so you'll have to pay yourselves in.
Because we're still technically in the off-season its only £10.50 to get in for the day.
Not sure what time Sue and I will arrive, it depends what time everything slots into place. Will definately be before 11am though, we'll know nearer the time.
Might be a good day out for anyone that wants to go to the Liverpool meet and do the drive in two stages?
Hope you can make it :)

I think I may go to this rather than the Liverpool meet as my husband and son can have more fun at this. I haven't talked to him about it yet though so as for now I'm a maybe.

Good stuff Mike.
The only problem with the tigers is that bloody cage they are in, its an absolute nightmare. Their enclosure is a lot smaller than the lions one and they tend to get a lot closer to the fence which is a lot harder to blur out than the lions one too.
I hope the weather is going to be good for us anyway :)
If anyone knows of any decentish B&Bs around chester/towards liverpool that they can recommend that would be great too thankyou ;)
is this deja vu? havent you all been to chester zoo about 5 times?? :D
Not sure what time Sue and I will arrive, it depends what time everything slots into place. :nono:

I've been to Chester Zoo 7 or 8 times since I got my membership pass thing last July/August.
I'm using it as a stop over between Hull and Liverpool, theres the Liverpool meet on the Sunday and we're in Amsterdam a few days before that etc. Just making it an easier drive.
I'm using it as a stop over between Hull and Liverpool
Do you sleep there then? LOL
In the lion's enclosure? ;)

Looks like I might be coming -weather is looking more promising for Saturday than Sunday :( so think I am going to switch from Liverpool to this, not too keen on Zoo's as such, but this does look nice and I havent been to a zoo since I was very young :) is there a time for meeting up? or is it a meet up as and when?

lol not sure how I missed that in the first post...maybe the font is soo big I didnt see it (or something!) :| cheers :)
I would like to come to this meet as I wont be able to make the sunday meet, but I wouldn't be able to get there until about 1.30 ish because I play badminton in the morning and then have to pick up my daughter from gymnastics, will the meeting be over by then?
In other words will yall still be there in the afternoon?

I can see being there till closing :) If the last couple of northern meets are anything to go by then they last until its dark (or somewhere closes) Think this place closes at 4:30....so in short. I am sure we will still be there!
thats good news, is there a mobile number being booted about or do we all wear red comic relief noses, just so I dont get arrested for accosting strangers who I have mistaken for TP members.:)
Jimmy_Lemon
02-03-2007, 20:16
I would give you my number but phone is on the blink at the moment...just turns off at random, so fair chance it would not be a lot of help giving you it :(
nevermind, but thanks anyway Jimmy, I may stay in and wash my hair in preparation for the xfactor live tommorrow night:)

Anyone bothering with a tripod? I am guessing they wont be keen on anyone using them anyway....but just wondering.
I can't see any problem with using a tripod, I've seen others use them there. I'll be taking my monopod.

Yeah weather looks good :D http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/24hr.shtml?id=1462
I managed to pull a muscle in my back yesterday which didnt start to hurt until last night. I now cant bend forward or backward much, so going to see how well painkillers work, but still really hoping to come :)

cloudy on the m62 at the moment. sun is breaking through though.
if anyone sees me swaying from side to side today don't worry, its just the boat momentum in my system, I was sat in a café yesterday and I could have swon the whole room was swaying and that's without any local delicasies affecting my senses.
should be a good day, still got plenty of room on my 4gb card too.
eta should be not too long after 11, see you all soon.
It's looking a lot cloudier in Chester now. :(
I'll most probably be at Zoo soon after 10am..... it takes a long time to drive that 1.3 miles :)

Sue and I have had to pull out of this one.
Sea was fairly rough both ways and we're feeling dizzy and sick, when I stand up I feel like I'm still on the boat. Don't want to risk the 3 hours there and back so we're staying at home and sleeping :(
Sorry you and Sue couldn't make it Matt, hope you're both feeling better now though. PaulC also couldn't make it.
Renee & family were there, Steve & myself sort of meandered around for a while then Mike (Moomike) caught up with us, followed by Jimmy Lemon, and later Kev & his family arrived.
Despite the promise of bad weather, the sun was out for most of the day.
It was a good day out, and I really enjoyed meeting up with everyone

Sorry again guys,
Just been in bed for three hours or so and the sleep seems to have sorted out whatever it was (I read something about motion sickness being related to the fluid in your head swishing from side to side but your eyes being still and normal and sleeping kills the connection between the two and resets it)
Thats hopefully sorted it anyway, going to have to wait a week or so before I can use my 100-400L on the 30d at the zoo.
hope you all got some decent pictures, looking forward to seeing them soon.
Glad to hear you're feeling better Matt, I look forward to seeing you and Sue at the zoo next time. I wouldn't let Steve hold your new camera though, ask the guy in the pic next to him, what Steve did with his camera when he took a pic for him.... :)

It was nice meeting you Mike and Steve again. I spent the day with my hubby and son so really was anti social. Saw a few people who I thought were TP but when I asked they just looked at me weird and walked away.... I had a great day although I had a hell of a time with shooting through the wires. I can't believe you didn't show Matt I even got you a b-day card. Oh well I guess you'll have to wait till Curry night.

Just got home and had some food - was good to meet everyone, though I missed Renne and family, suprised I didnt see you somewhere around - though it is a big old place I guess. Anyway I got about 400pics :| so expect some random postings over the next few days :p

It was an accident guv, honest, it just slipped out of my hand.
Seriously I felt awful about it.
Dont tell me it was a Nikon ;)
Glad that you all had a great time, by the time I got home from my usual saturday running about between dropping kids off and picking them up again etc, it would have been closer to 3pm when I would get to Chester Zoo and considering that we were leaving to see the xfactor at the MEN at 4.30pm, I was guilty once again of spreading myself too thinly.
Looking forward to seeing some shots but disapointed that I missed the opportunity to meet some of you guys.
