Well, my hart fell out of my behind last night when my D200, 30mm 1.4 and SB600 fell off the cheapo Jessops tripod. Luckily it was all ok as it only fell 3 feet onto carpet during a shoot. So today I called WarehouesExpress to help me find a new one as I have no idea where to start. I went for the Manfrotto 055DB and 484RC2 Mini Ball Head. Tripod can hold up to 7kg's and the head 4kg's. This will allow me to use my Sigma 100-300 too. Should be here tomorrow. Looking forward to it.

King.

EDIT: Thought I would share my joy with like minded people as the other half doesnt really care, all she cares about are the results, no the effort that goes into getting them.

Nice one! I bought a Manfrotto 190 ProB with a similar head a couple of months ago to replace a cheapy thing I had been using. You won't believe how nice it is to use a decent 'pod. Within minutes you'll wonder why you didn't buy a decent one ages ago

You'll not regret that buy! My other half is now "enjoying" playing with my old tripod and finally understands why I've been moaning about it!

Good combo indeed mate.

Very lucky with the camera there as well, i got rid of my jessops tripod the other day before such an accident occurred. I mean, come on! the damn tripod fell over in a slightly stiff breez the other month (no camera on thankfully) so had to get rid of it.

This thing is solid. Feels like it will last an age,...

Will try and get out with it during the weekend.

Great tripod. Bit heavy if trecking with it though but solid. Highly recommended by all who use it for good reason.

Do not put expensive gear on a cheap tripod. Recipie for disaster!

I tried making this point on another forum, chap spent out on a 400D and only had £20 left for tripod, he was advised to get the cx mini for exploring (which is an ok pod) but not for £450ish worth of kit.

Another thing I can't get my head around with these guys clamber around all sorts of derelect buildings with this sort of gear when compacts would make more sense, to me at least.

Compacts do not really allow for any sort of creative photography. If all they are doing is shooting in Auto mode and looking for maximum depth of field, a compact is probably better though.

don't agree with it all, but the underlying motto is important : buy the best you can afford. Or i think that's it anyway!
