Lens downsizing

I have been thinking about reducing the number and weight of lenses I have. I do a lot of fell walking and taking the camera along is a bit of a pain sometimes.

At present I have a sigma 10-20, a sigma 24-70 (very heavy) and a tamron 70-300.
Ive been thinking about changing the 24-70 and the tamron 70-300 for a lens that covers both of them. I have been looking at the tamron 18-270 or the 28-300. Or maybe the canon 28-200.

Has anyone had any experience with any of the 'large range' lenses and if so, what do you think?

Canon 18-200 is quite good I think, considering what it does. Not only is it the best of the bunch, but you can sort out some of its shortcomings in Canon's DPP lens aberration correction software if you shoot Raw. I think you will have to update the version you got with the 400D with a free download.

But the way I would do it is with the very light Canon 18-55 IS kit lens (the newer IS version is really pretty sharp) and partner it with the Canon 55-250 IS - another very good lens, very light, and well priced.

That is a lot of feather-weight lens power, good performance, and excellent value.

I have the Tamron 18-270 and as a general walkabout lens, I can't fault it.
It's certainly better than the Canon 17-85 and as sharp as the Canon 55-250.
I needed to carry 2 lenses for general walkabout and it began to annoy me.
Once I had tried a Tamron 18-270 at a photowalk, I was sold on the idea.

Im definitely leaning towards the 180-270, such a large coverage in a single lens
