I was out and about with the camera today and have taken 60-odd shots, some of which were of boats of various types. One caught my eye, so I've simply cropped the excess top and bottom to give this:

There's some bits of the picture I really like and other bits that I'm not so pleased with. Anyway what do you all think?

Cheers

i like, shame about the floats being where they are though, would have worked better if they were elsewhere..

I love the shape the sails make.

Matt - couldn't agree more. Sometime when I'm feeling more bored and brave I'll have a go at 'shopping them out - I'm crap with PSP so it may not work though.

Steep - yes, it wasn't that windy but the sails are full. I also liked the way the larger trees on the left were leaning almost in sympathy with the sails.

Thanks for your thoughts...

I like it, I like the boat sails and its reflection on the water, if you want to send me your hi res pic so I can take out the Floats for you, and then you will have a clean image.

Just a suggestion, but i think it would look pretty good if you cropped tight to the front and back of the boat, but kept the height in the shot to make it portrait. Possibly then tinkering with making it black and white. The portrait or more detail shot would look good because the sails are full and are at a good angle to the lens. If you find that you lose too much file size making it into a portrait try enlarging it using genuine fractals!

Not sure myself about the b/w but the portrait works pretty well

I like the portrait view a lot better though! Might look better in B+W if its made a little punchier/more contrast. I'm sure it still looks good as a color portrait though!

The final edit is alot better but could do with being just a little sharper. Again PS will allow you to do this. :D Nice capture.

Not bad, it's good to see how useful this forum is. The stages this image has gone through to get to the finished results. 1 image has produced 3 now you can choose your favourite, my personal choice would be the last one, as it should be really.

I've sharpen the image up using PSP and it does a whole lot better. I won't bore you all by posting that pic up as well (useless you really want to see it), but it's one that going in my gallery as a before/after, and also going onto paper and then hung on the wall at home... :)

Thank you all for assistance and advice - it has been very helpful and a great learning experience for me!

It's in my gallery - won't be hard to find as there's only four shots in there! ;)
