I have been told that you cannot fit a teleconverter to the 70-300mm IS USM lens. Is this correct and if not, why not? I don't understand  :help:

The Canon converters protude into the barrel of the lens - only some of the telephoto L series can accommodate. 3rd part TC's don't protude so will fit. The advantage of the Canons is that they close that distance between lens elements and preclude any stray light

Thanks Johnny!
I use a Kenko Pro 1.4TC on my Nikon 70-300mm with no problems full a/f etc so don't be completely put off w/o checking compatibility with your lens - apart from the 1 stop loss of aperture you'd never know it was there?
