I'm particularly interested to hear your opinions and see some images taken with and without a 1.4 T.C (or any other TC) too if at all possible peeps :D
Muchos gracias in advance
I realise it's a different beast, but I have the 200/2 AI-S. It does pretty well with my Kenko300 1.4x TC, but it's reportedly very bad (Thom Hogan IIRC) with a 1.7x or 2x.

Cheers Mud! A different beast it is but still appreciated none the less mate
I'd be highly grateful to see a few images mate, with and without the TC

Yes, I have, both with and without the TC.
All I can say is that it's lovely, lovely, lovely. :D
I'll see if I can dig out a link to a shot taken with the TC, but all the shots in this gallery (http://www.photoshelter.com/c/barneyallen/gallery/Alistair-Barrie/G0000qqGMLSOv0f0/?_bqH=eJyzzKtMicgI9CtPyXLP9ApO1TW1DMsxiSip8Pa0MjSy MjK1snKP93SxdTcAgsJCd1.fYP8ygzQDtQCQaABINNArLC_Rzd XcKz5fzd0z3t3Rx8c1KBKbJgAZVCBL&_bqO=5&P_ID=P0000QJVnaFE7J_o) were taken with the 200mm

Serious gratitude and appreciation there Barney  Lovely set there too mate.

I'm pretty sure I used the 1.4x TC on this (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kmud/3827588060/sizes/o/in/set-72157612375453318/) and this (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kmud/3826620311/sizes/o/in/set-72157612756108963/), stopped down to f/2.8 on the lens (EXIF would be handy, non-CPU lens on D90 I'm afraid...). The first is something like 50% crop and the second is more like 80-90% (I was pretty close to these small birds). Sorry, I've nothing more recent to hand. Naturally NorthernNikon's images should be more useful to you. The 200/2 VR is known as possibly Nikon's best lens for OOF rendering and is very sharp. I don't think you can go far wrong, but I wouldn't try to 'teleconvert' it too far...

Tomas, this might not be the best example, but I've posted a shot here (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2559/4093364110_9cab76a4bc_b.jpg) taken with the 200mm f:2 and Nikkor 1.4 telecon on a D300. I've onyl cropped the image on the left and right hand sides to minimise file size.
Hope that helps!

I had the pleasure of using one for one single shot. It was superb. If it was the range that I need I would have one without any hesitation.
I know Gary (fatphotographer) uses one for motorsport. Might be worth sending him a pm.

Ding dong! That's superb Barney, thanks a million chief!
I'm pretty close to sold on the f/2.
Basically I'm trying to assess which direction to go in when investing in some heavy artillery lensage.
Right now I have some very kind mates lending me telephoto glass, one of which works for a major paper and has access to a bunch of top Nikon glass.
So far, I've had the pleasure of using a 400mm 2.8 VR, a 200-400 f4 and a 300mm 2.8 AFS.
All great lenses, some are a little too pricey for me to even consider and I could also do with the versatility of a 200 with the possibility of using a 1.4 TC.
It seems to be the biggest bang for the buck considering my developments.
Many thanks again
