Hi I got the Nikon D300 in the post earlier today yipeee, I'm really excited, haven't used the camera yet but it's a really cool camera :), I like the build quality of the camera, it's really nice and sturdy which is good, getting the Nikon 70-300mm VR lens in the post this week, can't wait to take photos (with the D300) for the first time over the weekend (hope we have some dry weather lol) :)!! Thanks to everyone on here who gave me advice last weekend (even though I went for a different camera ), I really appreciate it :)

Great camera Choice.
Take some time to read up on the menus and functions while waiting for your lens to arrive.
You will notice a huge difference between your 400D and the D300.
The first thing you will notice are Nikon colours and a bit bolder than Canon, stick with it, in sunlight you might find the exposure comp at minus 0.7 is a help and lastly play around with the AF, as this was the reason i chenged from the 50D, the Af is fantastic.
Enjoy.

A couple of great choices there. I've got a D300 and it's excellent, my friend has the 70-300 and has got some great results from that.
I think you'll be very happy with your purchases!

It's superb metering & autofocus won't let you down !
Well done and welcome to the Dark side! I mean the good side ;-)
I was seconds away from buying the D300 but went with the D300s for the info button. How fickle am I?!
Fun times, I picked mine up from Bristol on Saturday with grip, did a shot Saturday evening with it. Absoultly love it so far, havent had much time to study the manual, but I much prefer to learn by playing.
