getting those action shots, its being in the right place at the right time, I loved this pic, how can it be made more impessive?

and with this one, what would make the better pic, the overall with everyone in shot or the zoom in just on the one entering the water

We have the fast action shots and in comparisonm here is a slow action shot, prob more of a still life, focusing on the boats delema, do the ducks help or hinder the pic?

Wazza - the firsts shot is obviously a grab shot - I take you took it from the back of a vehicle in that convoy. You did well to anticipate and grab the moment. It's fine as it is and shows the surroundings, I'd leave well alone. It could be made a little punchier colour -wise perhaps, but it's just as valid as it is with all that dust about. Nice shot.

There's no right or wrong way to approach that second shot and your basic idea is sound. You could have caught the action a shade earlier perhaps with the kayak hitting the water, and a faster shutter speed would have frozen the action more. Then again some blur is desirabe with action shots to heighten the feeling of movement, so it's a personal judgement call really.

The last shot would be nothing without the ducks - it's their curiosty which you've captured well and which makes the shot. Nice one.

I like the first image, and it is a good effort presumably taken at speed. i may try cropping some of the sides off to see what it looks like. Also unsure if you are aware of this or not and may not have been possible at the time (quick+not very detailed explanation coming up) but if you could have got further away from the giraffe and combi then used a tele lens to zoom right into the giraffe it would appear a lot closer to the approaching combi, thus adding even more urgency to the image.

The middle image is a nice idea, but taken on a bit of a dull flat grey day by the looks of it. This doesn't help when what you really need is a good quick shutter speed. Although it is nice to have some movement in action shots i feel this has a little too much on the action part of image. Maybe if you chopped a 5th of the bottom off to remove the blue helmeted kyaker it would be better.

The last shot tells a story which is always good to have in images. You start to think about the life that 'hms' Heidelberg must have had and what brought on its sorry demise. It's as if the ducks are laughing at our pitiful attempt to conquer their territory as they are swimming past. Different people will have different views about the ducks, i don't mind them being there but may just whip that one at the top of frame away. Also you could do with getting what looks to be a finger in front of the lens at the top left of frame out too.

The first picture, weel it was a case of look and shoot, animals running accross the road, give only a few seconds to aim and shoot, no real time to prepare for the shot.

The second, yes it was taken on Boxing day morning and it was dull and overcast, yes Itake the point re a quick fast shutter speed.

Sorry, i only said finger cos it was the same colour....But it could be anything! But yeah, thats the bit!

i like these, not great shots, but #1 is certainly not something you would get everyday, you captured the moment, so very good!

#2 is ok, would have been better to get the guy in mid drop i think, just my personal taste though

#3, good shot, the ducks are ok!

the image looks a little too compressed, also a tigher crop and maybe a touch of sharpening would do it proud.

The canoe shot would have looked better if you'd have shot it a fraction of a second earlier

3 is a nice idea, looks like a little sun flare in the top left
