View Full Version : New person, scary 1st image upload!
O..k, taking the plunge here after some gentle nudging by the kind people on my newbie thread.
One new camera Fuji S9500 and one total noob at using it produced these 1st photos:thumbsdown:
The exif is missing, probably due to the free framing app that I used when I resized them for here.
All taken on auto settings at ISO 200, cos I don't know how the rest works yet!
1. Mahonia, fuzzy flower head ! focal length 10.8mm, F/3.4, Exp 1/120sec

2. Bergenia, fuzzy again. focal length 12.8mm, F/3.6, Exp 1/180sec

3. Sunset. Like the colours. focal length 21.6mm, F/3.8, Exp 1/250sec

Just auto levelled in Microsoft Image Editor.
I will get better, promise! :)
Looking promising already - I really like the colours in the last image too.
You should look into getting yourself an editing app like photoshop/elements (if you don't have one already) - will give you a lot more scope for sharpening, etc.
Looking forward to seeing more. Congratulations on the first picture posting
Thank you so much moomike! :)
Don't have Photoshop/ Elements but I do have others, just don't know much about them yet!
Ive got...
Serif Photoplus 6
Picasa2
Gimp2
Paint.Net
Xara Extreme
Vicmans Photo Editor
and about a dozen other free image manipulation apps, I know bits about them all

 Nice first postings - you will benefit from getting PS or similar, the range of control is immense compared to anything else i've used.
You might want to consider a tripod too - it'll keep your shots sharp and make you concentrate on the focal point more :)
Great first pics, i agree that a tripod would help to keep images sharp. Well done.
Ooooo! I like you people!
Getting a tripod soon, when my man gets home from a contract.
No 3 for me Good luck with the photography The tripod will help

Hey, these are a great start!
Photoshop Elements is a really good image manipulation package and a fraction of the price of it's big brother CS2, if you are looking for something to get you started. Apologies if the ones you have listed are better......I don't know them. I will echo what the others have said about a tripod; it will be a good investment.

Nice start :) like people have said some post processing would improve them.
Keep the good work up
Certainly is a good start :)
When you make a picture smaller to show on here the resizing usually makes it softer. Using one of your programs to 'sharpen' after you have made it smaller will improve them. Most image editors can do sharpening and have a slider or other way to adjust the amount. Do it too much and the edges go funny - just a matter of judgement.... and it is very easy ;)
I've been looking at my Gimp2 application and comparing it's functions to Photoshop on a tutorial site, it seems very like PS and it's free, bonus!:D
I'll have a play with it and see if I can work it out.
Does this show promise? it's an Amaryllis that's on my desk now.
I've had a go at sharpening it after I resized it like you said RobertP :)

Thats much better.
Nice tight crop and good DOF.
(next time move the keyboard :))
You like flowers then, I guess?! :D
Gedtting better all the time there - as has already been said getting a tripod will make the world of difference too. Good stuff - keep sharing your shots!
Thank you!
Yes I like flowers, avid gardener, got a pond too and will take photo's of the wild life when the frogs, toads, newts and dragonflies get active.
Love nature! :D

Showing a lot of promise:)

Get GIMPShop and its menus are arranged just like PS, though thats pointless if you've never used PS before.
I would use GIMP most often but I seriously cannot get the exif lib working with it :( and sadly I want it lol. Has better graphics tablet support too. :)
Most people use Photoshop as a fad and have never used anything else but assume its best, find out whats best yourself.
Has better graphics tablet support too. :)
That's good to know as I have one!
I have a PSP trial as well that I'm going to play with.
Just downloaded the trial of Paint Shop Pro Photo XI and it's tutorials so I'll give that a go too.
