Great shot
I do believe you're getting the hang of that 500mm. Just as well I refused to accept it :p
just superb, my favourite little bird, it looks like its been posing for you, easily the best shot of one of these that I have seen..possibly ever!
envy, envy, envy.
Nice one! tricky little beggars these!

This was the 100-400L Doddy at around 250mm, but you're still not getting the 500mm. :D
Hit a problem late in the day, the squidgers have found the fat balls and started playing rugger with 'em! :suspect:
I now keep my water pistol handy, and the squidgers get a blast when they get on the fat balls. I dunno which is the most rewarding - actually nailing the bird shots or squirting the squidgers.
but you're still not getting the 500mm. :D
Look, I've tried Mr Nice guy, tried subtle, you're not leaving me with many options here :D Ah well, probably best with someone who can actually use it anyway
very nice cedric is it taken in your normal environment or did you pop out somewhere ?

LOL Taken through the open kitchen window at a range of less than 5 feet. The tripod was set up but I was making a cuppa when I looked up and saw a pair land on the perch. I dropped to my knees crawled along the kitchen floor, under the window and came up very slowly behind the camera expecting them to be long gone but they were still there.
First shutter whack and they were gone of course.
i can see you now ha ha well worth it mate
Aww!
That really is a cutie CT, can see all the fine detail of his lovely little fluffy feathers too.
But! ..... I cant believe youve taken to blasting the squidgers .... & just for nipping at your fat balls too!

LOL They don't nip at 'em, they drag the feeder down, generally dismember it, and scatter the bits around the garden.

LOL. I suppose so, but I haven't seen hide nor hair of them since.
Great shot CT  Nice work on the squidgers ;)

Is their not a silent shutter custom function on the 1D N? I'm pritty sure I've heard people talking about it?
Very nice CT well worth the wait ! lets hope they dont wait too long before coming back ! :)
Awwww - isn't he sweet! Glad they've come out to play CT!

There is Ally and I do use it sometimes, but it's a bit of a pain to set up as you have to have the camera coupled to the PC and select the mode via Canon software. Once you de-select the mode, you have to go through the whole performance of connecting to the PC to set it again. Not a patch off my old Nikon F4 where you selected Silent mode with the twist of a switch.
It's not silent but it is lots quieter. The way it works is you press the shutter to take the shot, but the rewind doesn't commence until you remove your finger, and then it's a slow quiet reset. It slows your shooting rate down and you can't use it in Continuous mode. It's a useful function which I just wish you could select in camera.

Thats a shame another good function that they've made to user un-friendly :(
