Took delivery of new nIkon 300/2.8. Bit of a whopper! Don't find instructions very well worded and trying to figure out why VR isn't designed to work when you use the focus buttons on the lens or the AF-ON button on the camera. Also when do you use the AF-LOCK switch on the lens? merv:thinking::bang:

Merv, the VR only works with a half press of the shutter button,............. you will love that lens,......... get out and enjoy it!!!!

Thanks Xup. Looking up some winter motoring events over the next few weeks to get out and use the lens. merv:clap:

Great lens Merv. Set the D300 to focus with AF-ON and use your thumb to autofocus and when you half press the shutter button, VR will kick in.
It soon becomes second nature and I can't imagine switching back to just shutter button focus.
I use my 300mm 2.8 probably 90% of the time. Its also awesome with the 1.4 and 1.7 converter.

Kev.

The VR thing is the same for all VR lenses.

Why? No idea at all!

Nice buy merv. I don't think there's much on this side of Christmas, but will be plenty of things going on in the new year.

Whens the first worthwhile event after Xmas? Theres some sort of Rally in hillsborough on 28/12 - Ulster automobile club. Theres also car racing at Kirkistown - 500 MRCI. Suppose theres not bikes for ages? merv

kev - excuse the stupid question but why bother with the AF-ON button on the camera when the shutter button will do it all?? merv:thinking::thinking::bonk:
