I've just received a hand strap for my Canon 40D which for my uses think is gonna be more practical than a neck strap.

I've put it on and had to take the neck strap off and initially seem happy with it.

The main reason I got this is when I'm using my camera, I never walk with it around my neck cos it swings or when I move around or bend over I'm frightened I gonna dink it on something or scratch it on my zip or something like that.

Having a hand strap hopefully means that if I do slip (which nearly happened once) then I dont drop it.

Was just wondering how people feel about the whole neck strap vs hand strap thing?

I have both on my cameras - belt 'n' braces and all that

Also have both on the 7D, would not use without either for my wildlife stuff :)

I use a neck strap but like to wrap it round my forearm, so it acts like a hand strap.

But when I'm changing lenses or shooting somewhere particularly precarious I can use the neck strap.

The only down side to this is that my 4 year old son has a habit of pulling on the dangling part of the neck strap (when I'm using it as a hand strap) to attract my attention :nono:

Which hand strap did you get? I've seen some big usa pro's using them and wondered how I'd get on.

It's a cheapy one from fleabay. As I use it, it might irritate the hell out of me, but it might be the next best thing since sliced bread.

Both neck and hand straps eh.....
