Hi everyone - just signed up for this website yesterday - so hello!!!

Anyway, I'm off to America in a few weeks time and thought I would treat myself to some gear over there - saying as it so cheap compared to England. (Going shopping at Calumet as stuff still guaranteed in UK shops).

So far my to buy/wish list is as follows ...

Nikon 1.8 AF D Lens
Nikon SB600 Flash
Infra red remote control - (I own a D50).

I also fancy a new tripod and have my eye on the new Manfrotto 190 Xpro. However I'm worried about weight getting everything back (the wife likes to shop  ) so I might get the tripod and 804rc2 head from Morris Photography - seems decent at £149.95 all in.

Any thoughts or comments or other recommendations are gratefully accepted. Looking forward to joining you all in some good camera talk!!!

Cheers.

Practice your innocent look for customs on the way back :)

Yeah I would definitely ditch all the boxes and send them by post separately..... Have fun buying!

;) Good to see the old Canon -vs- Nikon fight still going strong.

Yeah - was wondering about customs. I am actually getting 2 of each of the above as my mate wants some too!!! I reckon, ditch the boxes for mine, put them into my kit bag and then carry his through.

Luckily, value wise it's not gonna be that much boxed stuff going through if I do it this way - less than £200 - so should be ok.

Has anyone had much experience of the Nikon lens? I've heard it's great and the DOF on it is meant to be cracking.

Not heard too much about the flash - sounds decent enough to do the job. Need a new one since I heard my old Hanimex that I used on a 35mm SLR will burn my d50 out - something to do with voltage!!! Whoops!!!

Anyway, thanks for the replies and the welcomes ... speak soon.
