Don't know if this shot works or not, Any comments good or bad would be much appreciated.

It works for me - nice shot and it conveys it's message very clearly. It might be better the other way round, i.e. with the transparent old soldier over a solid flag. That way it would convey the fact that there aren't so many of these old soldiers left now and they're gradually fading away. :(
